Lonely Planet’s Epic Surf Breaks of the World is the ultimate showcase of where in the world surfers and enthusiast alike can seek out the ultimate wave…even if it’s from your armchair for the time being.

Peppered with stunning illustrations by New Zealander Ross Murray (insta – @rossmurrayillustration) and jammed with jaw-dropping photography this inspirational book features tales of 50 epic surf trips in 34 countries (from Australia to South Africa), plus a further 150 suggestions of other great waves to seek out – from accessible beach breaks in France and California to out-there rides off of Tasmania and Tahiti.

Five first-hand tales of epic Australian surf breaks are included in the chapters “Bells Beach, Victoria”, “Bryon Bay, NSW”, “Noosa, Queensland”, “Red Bluff, Western Australia” and “Shipstern Bluff, Tasmania”.  A further 12 recommendations can also be found stretching from Burleigh Heads National Park in Queensland to Eaglehawk Neck in Tasmania.

“This book includes 200 of the greatest surf breaks in the world,” Lonely Planet says. “And, Australia’s blessed with an abundance of options for surfers of all skill levels.”

“Our book reflects that diversity and offers something for all surfers regardless of whether you’re a kook or a pro,” Lonely Planet adds. “Thanks to decades of surf exploration, such mythical unicorns as Cloudbreak, Thurso and Skeleton Bay are no longer whispered rumours.  These are breaks where one single ride can be the crowning achievement of your surfing life.  We’ve sliced the planet up into 5 distinct surf regions and within each chapter there’s a curated collection of stories about the most famous, fascinating and fabulous surf breaks in that part of the world.  Each story also includes a bunch of practical information and intel on the ideal conditions.”
