Spread the love

This Friday, September 20, we at World Resorts of Distinction (WRD) are putting our out-of-offices on, closing our laptops and standing in solidarity with the world’s youth at our local chapter of the Global Climate Strike.

WRD is a sustainable business – we make our bread and butter by marketing sustainable travel and one of our core values is ‘respect and gratitude for the planet’. It makes sense that we support a movement that demands climate justice.

What doesn’t make sense is kids skipping school to get the attention of adults and world leaders. What doesn’t make sense is citizens taking time off work to join young people in the streets to demand an end to the age of fossil fuels and climate inaction.

And what certainly doesn’t make sense is the fact that students are more woke to the catastrophic consequences of climate change than global leaders.

The WRD team will be joining the global climate strike on Friday to march with the courageous schoolkids who have brought this movement to life; fellow climate warriors; and responsible businesses, to let leaders know it’s time to woke the f**k up.

We represent some of the world’s most pioneering brands in the sustainable travel space so we love our jobs and we love coming to work. We don’t take the decision to strike lightly. It’s not a day off or a team-building exercise – it’s a moral obligation.

Alongside more than 700 businesses and organisations, we have pledged to be part of the This is Not Business as Usual movement to add our voice to the collective call for urgent action.
