Virgin Australia and Link AirwaysIn an unprecedented move set to reshape the landscape of Australian aviation, Virgin Australia, in partnership with Link Airways, has announced the launch of their highly anticipated codeshare flights. This strategic alliance marks a significant milestone in Australian aviation history and promises to redefine the travel experience for millions of regional Australians, offering them unparalleled connectivity and convenience.

For the first time, travellers from regional Australia can book flights to an extensive network of 41 destinations across the country, all under a single reservation. This initiative simplifies the booking process and ensures a seamless travel experience through check-in and baggage transfer services. The importance of this development cannot be overstated, as it opens up a world of possibilities for those living in remote areas, providing them with the same level of access and convenience previously reserved for metropolitan travellers.

Since its announcement in January, the codeshare agreement has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm, with thousands of seats already sold through travel agencies. The Bundaberg to Brisbane route, in particular, has emerged as a favourite among passengers, highlighting the demand for more accessible travel options within Australia’s vast expanse.

Virgin Australia’s commitment to customer satisfaction is evident in the benefits offered to Velocity Frequent Flyer members. Travellers can now earn Points and Status Credits on codeshare services operated by Link Airways, with additional perks such as bonus Points and extra baggage allowance for Platinum, Gold, and Silver members. This Velocity Frequent Flyer program enhancement underscores Virgin Australia’s dedication to rewarding customer loyalty and enriching the travel experience.

The expansion of Virgin Australia’s regional footprint by approximately 45 percent is a game-changer for the industry. It demonstrates the airline’s ambition to connect every corner of Australia and its commitment to supporting the economic growth and development of regional communities. Destinations like Inverell, Wollongong, and Bileola, previously underserved by major airlines, will now enjoy direct connectivity to the broader Australian network, fostering more significant business and tourism opportunities.

Alistair Hartley, Virgin Australia’s Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, encapsulated the sentiment of the initiative, stating, “The sky’s the limit now for so many regional Australians wanting better connectivity between home and the rest of our great country.” Jeff Boyd, Link Airways Manager of Network Strategy and Development, shares this vision and expressed excitement about welcoming new customers aboard and enhancing connectivity for travellers to and from Australian regional towns and cities.

As Virgin Australia and Link Airways embark on this journey together, the future of regional Australian travel looks brighter than ever. With around 90 additional flight opportunities across regional Australia per week, the partnership promises to bring the country closer together and propel the Australian aviation industry into a new era of accessibility, convenience, and customer satisfaction.
