Spread the love

Inviting artists to takeover the institution that is Mary’s Underground, GOING UNDER will bare the stories and experiences of Sydney/Eora through the eyes of GLO, Deepa and Ayebatonye all throughout June.
An opportunity for artists to explore their relationships to each other and the city, to celebrate long time collaborations, and to open up new ones through immersive elements with this VIVID celebration.
Known for her incredible taste setting selections, DJ Ayebatonye invites artists of the Black and Afro diaspora to blend global electronic sounds into entrancing sets in this immersive, other worldly celebration of afro-futurism, black joy and community on Thursday, 2nd June.
Join her and Astronafrica, CMJ, Gerald Wala, Jane and Sam Alfred on the dance floor for Planet Abundance as they lay down afro rhythms, deep percussive beats, classic house, techno and jersey club paying homage to the Bla(c)k roots of dance music while bringing the creativity of Bla(c)k art to the forefront. Feast on sound, movement and performance from this founder and creative director of collaborative DIY arts platform Irregular Fit and creator, producer and host of Club Abundance on Skylab Radio.
Culture Re-set by GLO is a Black Odyssey through space and time delivered from the perspective of the black diasporic experience. On Thursday, 9th June, sound and movement artists will assemble to evoke a connection to culture including Pookie (DJ), Temgazi and Sevy. This night will bind audiences together as they venture into a night of Black centric rhythms.
On Thursday, 16th June, Bypass by Deepa will explore the South Asian diaspora in music within Eora featuring performances by Uncle Kal, Nausheen B2B Randev, DJ Mistry B2B Rakish, Scalymoth, Ramashon, Cinnamonkween and Gayatrigger. A night of celebration and representation of a community that has always been blossoming, but has never had the stage. The DJ, host of FBi Radio’s Saturday Sunset, and one half of jazz-loving party duo, Honey Point, Deepa is guided by all things warm with a deep affinity for intention.
Facilitating a space for artists to create an experience that is bold, evocative and unforgettable, the series has been curated by Mary’s Head of Music, Creative and Events Tess Wait who has given a platform to these three female powerhouses for their work to bring oft overlooked voices to the forefront.
Mary’s Underground’s GOING UNDER will take place across June for VIVD Sydney.
