Malaysia has won the right to host the prestigious World Union of Wound Healing Society (WUWHS) Congress 2026 which will be held in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. This bid win was announced at the WUWHS General Assembly held in Abu Dhabi, UAE on Friday, 4 March 2022.
The Malaysian bid was presented by Dato’ Sri Abdul Khani Daud, Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) and Prof Dr. Harikrishna K.R. Nair, President of Malaysian Society of Wound Care Professionals (MSWCP), with an 11-member delegation.
YB Dato Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia congratulated the Malaysian bid team for their achievement and said, “I would like to congratulate MyCEB and MSWCP for bringing home a big win for Malaysia to host the prestigious World Union of Wound Healing Societies Congress in 2026. I received this good news from MyCEB’s CEO, Dato’ Sri Abdul Khani who contacted me from Abu Dhabi. The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Malaysia has been very supportive of MyCEB’s work as the main agency in leading Malaysia’s bid for international business events activities. We acknowledge that business events are an important economic activity that can help the country’s economic recovery. More importantly, we believe that business events activities such as WUWHSC 2026, will bring profound benefits to our nation, especially to those in the wound healing profession and the patients as well.”
The MSWCP is aiming to bring in around 5,000 delegates with an estimated economic impact of RM108.7 million and estimated visitors expenditure of RM46.4 million to the Malaysian economy. The proposed theme for WUWHSC 2026 which is “Global Paradigm Shift: Wound Management Specialty and Recognition” has been well accepted by the delegates.
Dato’ Sri Abdul Khani Daud, Chief Executive Officer of MyCEB who was in Abu Dhabi for the final bid presentation along with Prof. Dr. Harikrishna said, “MyCEB will continue to work closely with all associations and stakeholders in Malaysia to attract more international business events to our country. This partnership with MSWCP is very important for Malaysia because we need to address the challenges that Malaysia is facing today, that is the ever-increasing number of diabetic populations that needs urgent care from wound specialists. We not only presented what Malaysia could offer as a business events destination, but more importantly, our long-term strategic action plan to help Malaysia and other under-developed countries to have access to wound care, just like others in the developed nations. MyCEB will ensure that the WUWHS 2026 will be successfully organised and delegates will have the most unique experience coupled with Malaysian hospitality.”
Prof. Dr. Harikrishna who is attached to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital said, “The MSWCP Team has worked very hard in gaining the trust and votes from global member societies in this bid process. I am proud to represent Malaysia, along with Dato’ Sri Khani to present a compelling value proposition for the WUWHS to choose Malaysia. We hope that Malaysia can be the center of excellence in wound healing in Asia and that we can create a legacy for the future. I would like to thank my colleagues at the MSWCP and in particular, the guidance from MyCEB in this bid process. I also appreciate the support provided by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Ministry of Education without which we will not be able to achieve this win. I also value the moral support provided by the Malaysian Embassy in UAE that we really needed.”
It is a double joy for Malaysia when Prof Dr Harikrishna who is also MyCEB’s KESATRIA ambassador, will take up the Presidency position in 2024 and when the Congress is held in Malaysia in 2026.
