The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu *Opened March 2020* This converted historic elementary school building from the 1930s has taken on a new role as an up-scale hotel with 48 guestrooms. Complete with a rooftop bar with stunning views and Kyoto’s first Benoit Restaurant (supervised by Alain Ducasse), the elegant property offers something new in the beautiful Kiyomizu area. Learn more
The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takaragawa by HULIC *Opened July 2020* Another former elementary school, in the heart of the city, by the Takase River, has been preserved and renovated Kyoto’s oldest concrete school building and surrounds creating a unique hotel environment. The original architecture is a fusion of western design and Japanese aesthetics. For the Hotel’s opening Kyoto’s Mayor Daisaku Kadokawa said: ‘For 150 years, this former Elementary School has nurtured children and has been loved as a base for community activities. This traditional school building is being reborn as a complex facility for accommodation, libraries, halls and more. While inheriting the history of the school, we hope that as a new symbol of Kyoto, it will be familiar to the local people for a long time and continue to attract visitors from home and abroad.’ Learn More

Fauchon Hotel Kyoto *Opened March 2021*: Renowned French gastronomy brand FAUCHON has brought Parisian glam to Kyoto with the opening of its second property in the world. And the first Leading Hotels of the World property in western Japan. Historic former headquarters of Nintendo to reopen as a hotel. Marufukuro *Scheduled opening April 2022* Another historic building conversion in Kyoto, this property was the headquarters of Nintendo dating back to the 1880s. With world-famous architect Tadao Ando overseeing the hotel design and adding a new annex to the existing building, the project promises to be something special. Marufukuro will have 18 guestrooms including 7 suites, each room will showcase different furnishings. Fans of the gaming giant will be delighted to know that many original features from the buildings’ time as Nintendo headquarters are being retained, including the historic exterior. Learn more

Regent Kyoto *Scheduled opening 2024* Located on the site of the historic restaurant “Kyoto Okazaki Tsuruya” IHG will open this Regent branded property of 86 guestrooms. Tsuruya, recognised as one of Kyoto’s top dining destinations, is housed in sukiya-style wooden buildings dating back 100 years, and was originally built as accommodation for the Japanese Imperial family and distinguished guests. Over the years it has welcomed Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Diana, George H.W. Bush and François Mitterrand, among others. Regent Kyoto will be carefully designed to incorporate Tsuruya and the gardens, keeping it as a restaurant. The new property will include additional restaurants and all the amenities of a luxury hotel.
