THEN WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
When it comes to gifting, you have 2 options:
– Either you go for something very specific like a bottle of Shiraz or a Skydiving experience.
But if the person doesn’t like red wine or fears heights, it is a miss… Or
– You can go for something very flexible, it’s what we call a Cash gift, $100 in cash or a $100 gift card / Voucher.
But now you have two problems: First, you put a price on the relationship, something like I love you $100, this could be disappointing. Imagine an employee working 6 months winning a $1M project for the business without seeing their partner and kids and in the end, gets a $100 gift card… Not ideal. And I am not even talking about your favorite person that already has everything and that you give up finding THE perfect gift for them.
The second issue is that when you get a gift card or a dollar value voucher, let’s say for an experience gift platform, you want to spend it and you connect to the online platform and there, you will only find 4-5 experiences at exactly $100. All the rest will be at $80 or $120 and either you end up losing money or worse, if you want a cool experience, you will have to top up using your own credit card, paying for your own gift. You may agree, this is not ideal.
