Fully vaccinated people are preparing for their first-long haul flight since the pandemic.
For thousands of Aussies, this will be the first time they’ll have time to have a snooze on an aeroplane in almost two years.
A stiff and uncomfortable neck is usually the case for getting some rest on a long haul flight.
One solution is a BYO pillow – not only for comfort but also for health or chiropractic advice. Health professionals approve these pillows.
Pillow expert Darren Nelson from Solace Sleep recommends going for a walk up and down the aisle before a snooze.
“This can tire the body out and soothe any pain on the body – which means the body can go into a state of relaxation for some time.”

Pillow expert Darren Nelson, who works alongside Occupational Therapists across the country, says there are enormous benefits in helping Australians get better sleep on a plane.

Mr Nelson and his team at Solace Sleep use special pressure mapping to pinpoint pressures on the body. Along with OTs, they go into their customer’s homes to map their body when they are sitting or lying down.

“This makes a marked improvement in mobility and quality of life,” says Mr Nelson.

Top 5 travel hacks to get a snooze on a plane:

  1. Wear comfortable clothes for the trip: Pop on a comfy pair of pants or sweater for a long haul flight. Wearing tight clothing is not breathable for the body, which will leave the body irritated and uncomfortable.
  2. Have a good quality ear mask and noise-cancelling headphones: Block out the noise from down the aisle with a good quality ear mask, which will increase sleep quality.
  3. Keep warm: Pack a jacket or use the blanket for your flight. – keeping warm will help many fall asleep faster.
  4. Use a neck pillow or neck support pillow: by cushioning your head against something soft, a neck pillow can help you fall asleep and fight the usual fatigue caused by uncomfortable plane seating.
  5. Limit the amount of screen time: Turning off the movie and putting on a calming song may help with a better snooze while flying.
