Hotels at ATMAs the global economy recovers and tourism rebounds, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) hospitality sector is experiencing a transformative rise, poised to surpass significant milestones. The UAE’s market alone is forecasted to exceed US$7 billion by 2026, marking a golden era for the region’s tourism and hospitality industries.

In Dubai, synonymous with ambition and futuristic developments, the hospitality sector has outpaced iconic destinations like London, New York City, and Bangkok in terms of hotel room capacity. Currently boasting over 150,000 hotel rooms, Dubai leads in volume and variety, offering everything from ultra-luxury to budget-friendly options.

The rapid expansion isn’t limited to Dubai. Riyadh has seen a staggering 134% growth in hotel supply, now featuring 28,465 rooms. Meanwhile, Doha has doubled its room offerings in the past decade, reaching nearly 40,000. These figures reflect a broader regional strategy to enhance tourism infrastructure and diversify economic portfolios away from traditional oil-based dependencies.

This burgeoning growth is set to be a central topic at the upcoming Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2024, scheduled for May 6-9 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. This premier event will gather key stakeholders from across the globe to discuss trends, challenges, and opportunities within the travel and hospitality sectors.

Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME for Arabian Travel Market, highlighted the event’s significance in fostering industry growth. “With a 21% increase in exhibition space dedicated to hotel brands this year, ATM 2024 is poised to be a pivotal platform for networking and strategic partnerships,” Curtis stated. The event will showcase various brands, including newcomers and industry giants like IHG Resorts, Four Seasons, and Shangri-La.

Adding to the excitement, several European entities, such as Ethno Belek from Turkey and Buff Medical Resort from Germany, will debut at ATM, underscoring the event’s global appeal and the region’s strategic importance to international markets.

Experts will take the stage to share insights on navigating the ever-evolving tourism landscape. Sessions like the ‘Frameworks for Tourism Investment’ will offer attendees a deep dive into strategies for attracting new markets and maintaining competitive edges. Noteworthy speakers include Guy Hutchinson, President of Hilton Middle East and Africa, and Basmah Al-Mayman, Regional Director of the Middle East at UNWTO.

ATM 2024 will also introduce the ‘Future Stage’, focusing on cutting-edge trends shaping the hospitality sector. Representatives from leading hotel chains and corporations will discuss how digital innovation and consumer preferences drive industry changes.

Haitham Mattar, Managing Director of IHG in India, Middle East & Africa, expressed enthusiasm about the opportunities ATM 2024 offers. “As the official Hotel Partner, we are committed to enhancing our collaborations and contributing to the region’s tourism growth. ATM remains an unmatched venue for fostering dialogue and sharing expertise,” Mattar affirmed.

As the 31st edition of ATM draws near, its theme, ‘Empowering Innovation: Transforming Travel Through Entrepreneurship,’ resonates more than ever. The event promises to catalyze further growth and innovation in the global travel and tourism industry, with a broad spectrum of exhibitors from aviation to technology.

The strategic partners for ATM 2024 include the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, Emirates Airlines, and IHG Hotels & Resorts, each playing a crucial role in amplifying the event’s impact and reach.
