French Quarter Festivals, Inc., (FQFI) the non-profit organization that produces Satchmo SummerFest presented by Chevron, announces that Satchmo SummerFest 2021 will be a live event taking place July 31 – August 1 at the New Orleans Jazz Museum.

“We are thrilled to announce our comeback,” said Emily Madero, CEO of FQFI. “Satchmo SummerFest is the only local festival dedicated to Louis Armstrong. In addition to being a musical genius, Armstrong was a cultural ambassador and fighter. His legacy continues to inspire and provide a source of strength as our community rebounds. We invite our fans to join us for two days of celebration – celebration of local music, culture, and resilience. Also, we are grateful to those who donated to our Resilience campaign. Your support helped make this comeback possible!”

FQFI has diligently worked in coordination with stakeholders, industry peers, and city officials to ensure a safe return of Satchmo SummerFest and French Quarter Fest in 2021. The 2021 festivals will be modified in order to adhere to CDC protocols and guidelines.

“For more than a year, the City of New Orleans has bravely faced the challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic like no other city in the world,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “We’ve gone from “worst to first” when it’s come to fatality reduction and testing, and we’ve become a leader in getting residents vaccinated. Along the way, we’ve worked with our partners in the tourism, hospitality and cultural spaces to ensure that this city reopens safely to resume its rightful place as the most welcoming city in the world. We will see one important example of this — a safe, welcoming city sharing its unique culture with others — with the festival that honors one of our greatest culture bearers, Louis ‘Satchmo’ Armstrong, with the return of the Satchmo SummerFest. We will dance and sing together just like we always have, and always will. We can’t wait.”

“Having Satchmo Summerfest with people enjoying the French Quarter and New Orleans’ vibrant music and culture will be the best sign our city is healing and moving forward. Our communities have sacrificed and worked together to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus; it’s time that we enjoy spending time with family and friends who we couldn’t see in person during the pandemic.” said District “C” Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer.

Full details, including the music and culinary lineups for both Satchmo SummerFest and French Quarter Festival will be announced in June.

FQFI produces three annual events with a mission to showcase the unique culture and heritage of New Orleans and contribute to the economic well-being of the community. In addition to French Quarter Festival, FQFI produces Satchmo SummerFest and Holidays New Orleans Style. In 2020, the organization produced a series of virtual events to support its mission, including the Seven Days of Satch presented by Chevron in August and the Holidays New Orleans Style virtual concert series in December.

“We’re excited to return to live events and continue our 38-year history with Louisiana musical artists, chefs, businesses and volunteers,” Madero said. “We appreciate our partners and fans for their continued support, and we look forward to celebrating Louisiana’s incredible culture together.”
