A unique partnership between Far North Queensland’s quintessential celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and culture and one of the world’s leading luxury tour operators could be the key driving the region’s post-COVID tourism resurgence.

In the lead up to Cairns Indigenous Art Fair’s (CIAF) 2021 return in August, travel specialists Abercrombie & Kent have released an exclusive, six-day itinerary for discerning travellers offering a series of culturally focused, money-can’t-buy experiences.

Marketed Insider’s Cairns: An Indigenous Art Immersion, the journey highlights include pre-opening viewing of CIAF’s curated Art Fair exhibition, a personalised tour of the Fair with CIAF Artistic Director Janina Harding, a meet and greet with the designers and curators of the highly anticipated fashion performance, tickets to VIP gallery events, an opportunity to meet the owners of a private conservation garden in the Daintree Rainforest and opportunity to take part in a hands-on, Aboriginal art workshop.

Abercrombie & Kent Australia’s General Manager Kathie Sikkes said, “With such privileged access to this celebrated event, the journey is sure to be one that stays with travellers long after they return home. Touring the fair with Janina Harding herself offers an unrivalled insider look into the fair and what brings it to life, and the opportunities to meet the artists and their families means that guests can come away with a truly in-depth understanding of the works and the significance of this event.

“Here at A&K we pledge to ‘go beyond the ordinary’, something we share with the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair. The organisation’s commitment to championing and creating pathways for emerging indigenous artists is something to be celebrated, and we are privileged and delighted to be able to offer our guests such immersive access to this incredible event.

”This journey lets travellers experience an authentic part of Cairns, revelling in indigenous culture and creativity, diving head first into this celebration with unrivalled access and engaging experiences, letting you truly feel a part of the fair and its festivities,” Ms Sikkes said.

CIAF General Manager Darrell Harris said the event’s inclusion in Abercrombie & Kent’s 2021 programming realises a long-held dream to strategically position and profile the event to a wider, albeit targeted tourism market.

“CIAF has proved time and again its wide appeal – not just to collectors of Indigenous art – but visitors who want to experience the destination at a deeper, cultural level.

“For CIAF, this is the beginning of something big and we are grateful for the opportunity to work with Abercrombie & Kent to deliver something truly special at this year’s event,” he said.
