Merlin Entertainments, the company behind iconic Australian attractions such as SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, LEGOLAND Discovery Centre and Madame Tussauds Sydney hope to be included in the Government’s first wave of permitted re-openings as the country begins to consider easing imposed Covid-19 restrictions.

Rob Smith, Divisional Director of Merlin Entertainments plans to re-open the Australian and New Zealand attractions based on precautionary hygiene and safety measures that go above and beyond those that will be seen in other hospitality spaces.

These hygiene and safety measures include actions such as becoming completely cashless operations, lowering capacity limits with allocated time-slots for guests, the use of additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and clothing for staff, the provision of spatial separation markings, the installation of hygiene screens in various areas, enhanced cleaning regimes and other similar operating adjustments around the attractions.

These measures will ensure that the attractions are a safe place for both staff and guests and will allow for households to enjoy a quality, fun and educational time in the attraction’s indoor and outdoor environments at a time when people are going to need a fun day out more than ever.

Smith commented: “With the positive decline in confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Australia…it is right that our attention turns to business and economic recovery whereby we provide complete assurance that our attractions across Australia and New Zealand can operate entirely in accordance with any Government guidelines put in place. Safety is our number one priority and we won’t put that at risk, and our established infrastructure, experience and operations mean we have the right measures and policies in place to reopen safely to protect our staff and guests”.

Commenting on the need for attractions to be open for the public, Smith said, “As a company we exist to make people happy. Now more than ever our role is so important to families and the wider community as they start to look forward to a brighter future where they can enjoy time together making memorable experiences”.
