The annual Penghu International Light Festival has kicked off and will run until 2nd November.  Back for its fourth year, this brilliant event features captivating light shows, rock concerts and much more.

The light spectacle is composed of four zones, including Xiying Rainbow Bridge which has been fitted with illumination equipment across the deck and piers, as well as the Guanyinting Recreation Area.

Penghu is the perfect island getaway from Taiwan as it’s only a short flight from local airports.  Not only is it a popular destination for its fresh seafood, unique cacti desert and spectacular landscape, but the light festival is now becoming one of the island’s main tourist attractions.  The amazing high-altitude fireworks display, music and cascading rockets, turn the evenings on Penghu into a magnificent affair.  A total of 18 light shows and 12 concerts, amongst other activities, will be taking place every Tuesday to Saturday.

The Penghu Light Festival is just the beginning of ‘light’ in Taiwan and precedes the celebrated Lantern Festival.  The 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival will take place in Taichung,

a city on the western side of central Taiwan, from 8–23 February, 2020.

The Taiwan Tourism Bureau has been holding the Lantern Festival for 30 years to attract visitors and raise the international profile of the cultural attractions of Taiwan. Traditionally, the festival has been celebrated by carrying colourful hand lanterns of all shapes and sizes. As well as these traditional lanterns there will be many electromechanical lantern displays, and large themed lanterns sponsored and designed by different companies.

The Taiwan Lantern Festival adds a high-tech touch to this traditional custom and brings the event to the international stage. From the themed lantern displays to folk arts and performances, the festival has become a favourite for both locals and foreign visitors.
