Internationally acclaimed master watercolour artist, Alvaro Castagnet will perform a live painting demonstration at the spectacular new rooftop bar, The Terrace, on Friday 9th November 2018 from 4.00pm to 6.00pm. Located on the top floor of Emporium Hotel South Bank, The Terrace offers incredible, sweeping views, providing Alvaro the perfect platform to capture Brisbane’s magnificent city skyline.
Born and based in Uruguay, Alvaro is being flown in by the Watercolour Society of Queensland for a series of workshops at Griffith University’s Queensland College of Art and RNA (The Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland). He has won top international honours and acclaim, with his artwork featured in multiple magazines, art exhibitions, videos, and books around the world.
Flamboyant and passionate, Alvaro is admired for his powerful, impressive interpretation of light effects and his ability to evoke mood to convey the very soul of the subjects he paints. Alvaro burst onto the Australian scene with his breathtaking paintings of the country’s epic rural and urban landscapes, using rich and exotic watercolours that had rarely seen before.
The demonstration will provide guests and patrons of Emporium Hotel South Bank the unique opportunity to observe Alvaro as he uses his “4 Pillars of Watercolour” strategy to capture the distinctive Brisbane skyline, and watch as he provides insights into his techniques, inspiration and passions.
Ahead of his arrival in Brisbane Alvaro said,
“I am very honoured to be invited to conduct workshops for the Watercolour Society of Queensland. Years ago, when I was living in Melbourne, going to Brisbane was always a great pleasure – it is such a vibrant, amazing city to visit and it became my second Australian home. The city has a beautiful light, beautiful shapes of buildings and architecture – it holds everything for a street scene painter like me.”
Warm light and abundant city shapes across the skyline provide me with such a buzz and give me huge inspiration to paint with passion – I look forward sharing this during the demonstration. The Terrace at Emporium Hotel South Bank will provide wonderful views which are perfect subjects for urban scenes for me to paint.”
