Located in the Southwest region of Colorado, Durango is a quintessential mountain town that touts a wide variety of outdoor recreation, a deeply rooted arts & culture scene, and a rich wild west history.  Here are several new and exciting happenings in Durango this winter:
Purgatory Resort’s Power Kids Pass: Located just 20 minutes from downtown, Purgatory Resort is a small but mighty ski resort with over 1,600 acres of skiable terrain. This winter the resort’s free kids’ season pass, Power Kids Pass, will be available for children ages 12 and under. This is the only pass in North America that grants free unlimited skiing and riding to all kids, no blackout dates or purchase required.
Additional New Purgatory Resort Offerings: The resort’s new outdoor rollercoaster, the Inferno Coaster, will be open year-round for guests to whip through towering pine trees and mountain vistas. Along with skiing and snowboarding, the resort will also offer snowmobiling tours, dog sledding, sleigh rides and signatures events with local live music.
Newly Renovated Durango Hot Springs Resort & Spa: Tucked away in the ponderosa pines offering stunning views of the Animas Valley is the newly renovated Durango Hot Springs Resort & Spa. The resort includes 26 unique thermal mineral water features, including 16 natural mineral hot springs soaking pools, 8 private Japanese-inspired cedar soaking tubs, and the only natural hot springs in the world to infuse nanometer and micro-meter oxygen bubbles, increasing the health benefits and purity of the natural waters. Other new features include a reflexology walking path, a mineral water rain tower, a resort-style swimming pool, Finnish dry saunas, a cold plunge pool, and family and adult only areas.
Snowdown: This wild and iconic annual event takes over downtown Durango at the end of January.  Established in 1979, Snowdown served to bring the community together, celebrate Durango, and bring light and warmth to a snow-covered downtown. There is a wide variety of events happening during the weeklong event including everything from keg-cap frisbee golf to Durango’s hottest dog/coolest cat competition. Not to mention, 2022’s theme is Wizards! Every attendee is encouraged to dress in their favorite wizard or witch attire.
The Polar Express Train Ride: The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad’s Polar Express is back! This magical ride takes guests dressed in holiday pajamas through the beautiful snow-covered San Juan Mountains as they enjoy hot chocolate and Christmas goodies. The themed train ride features all your favorite characters from the cherished Christmas story, including Santa, his reindeer and elves who will greet guests when the train visits the North Pole.
