Held at the luxurious Grand Lisboa Palace Resort in Macao, China, the event was a testament to PATA’s commitment to recognizing excellence and leadership in the travel and tourism industry. This year, the summit honoured Darren Ng, Elizabeth M. Chin, and Mayur Patel for their exceptional service while appointing Soon-Hwa Wong as PATA Ambassador for Greater China.

PATA’s prestigious awards were presented during a grand welcome dinner reception, and awards presentation hosted by the Macao Government Tourism Office and SJM Resorts, S.A. PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid expressed profound admiration for the awardees, emphasizing their pivotal roles in advancing responsible tourism across the Asia Pacific region and beyond.

“These individuals have demonstrated unparalleled passion and leadership, ensuring the sustainable development of travel and tourism in our region. Their tireless efforts serve as an inspiration to all of us in the industry,” said Hamid.

Darren Ng: A Visionary in Travel Media

The PATA Life Membership, the association’s highest individual honour, was awarded to Darren Ng, Managing Director of TTG Asia Media Pte Ltd. This accolade celebrates Ng’s decades-long dedication to PATA and his influential role in the travel media.

Ng’s illustrious career began in 1984 when he joined TTG Asia Media. Over the years, he has driven the company’s growth, expanding its reach across Asia and establishing profitable event management and travel trade publishing ventures. His strategic vision has been instrumental in positioning TTG Asia Media as a leader in the industry.

Ng has also held significant positions within PATA, serving as Chairman of the PATA Singapore Chapter and holding various advisory roles. His leadership and contributions have left an indelible mark on the association.

Elizabeth M. Chin: Championing PATA’s Mission

Elizabeth M. Chin, Executive Director of the PATA New York Chapter, received the PATA Award of Merit. This award honours individuals who have consistently supported PATA’s mission over time.

Chin’s journey in the travel industry spans over 25 years. She started as a corporate auditor before founding ECI Travel World in 1986. Her company creates unique travel experiences, helping travellers explore spectacular destinations worldwide. Her dedication to PATA and its chapter network has driven the association’s success in the region.

Mayur Patel: A Catalyst for Growth

Mayur Patel, Head of Asia at OAG, was honoured with the PATA Chairman’s Award. This award acknowledges individuals for their unwavering support and loyalty during their tenure. Patel has been a key figure in business development and sales in the region, significantly contributing to OAG’s growth.

Before joining OAG, Patel held leadership roles at Amadeus and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), where he focused on aviation data solutions and services. His extensive experience and expertise have made him a valuable asset to PATA and the broader travel industry.

Soon-Hwa Wong: Leading PATA in Greater China

Soon-Hwa Wong’s appointment as PATA Ambassador for Greater China underscores his extensive experience and influence in the Asia Pacific travel and tourism sector. With over 40 years of industry experience, Wong is well-positioned to enhance PATA’s presence in Greater China.

As the CEO of AsiaChina Pte Ltd, Wong leverages his deep understanding of the tourism and trade dynamics between Asia Pacific and China. His leadership roles, including Immediate Past Chair of PATA and Chair of the PATA Singapore Chapter, highlight his commitment to driving change and innovation in the industry.
