The anticipation is building for New Zealand’s 28th annual MEETINGS trade show, set to take place from June 18th to 19th, 2024, in the vibrant city of Rotorua. This premier event, organized by Business Events Industry Aotearoa (BEIA), is poised to bring together over 220 hosted buyers and media representatives from New Zealand, Australia, and Singapore, alongside many domestic day buyers. The Energy Events Centre will be bustling with activity as attendees connect with a record 205 exhibitors spread across 246 stands, including 35 first-time participants representing 18 regions of New Zealand.
This year’s MEETINGS is not just about business connections; it’s a beacon of sustainability. After achieving Toitū net carbonzero certification last year, MEETINGS 2024 continues its commitment as a certified net carbon zero event. BEIA Chief Executive Lisa Hopkins emphasizes the event’s significance in the Australasian business events calendar, stating, “MEETINGS 2024 will be our biggest in recent memory, showcasing the very best products, services, venues, and destinations New Zealand has to offer, along with a packed schedule of professional development and learning opportunities.”
Rotorua, known as New Zealand’s cultural heartland, is a significant attraction for exhibitors and buyers. Attendees can immerse themselves in the city’s unique cultural and natural experiences. Highlights include the award-winning Wai Ariki Hot Springs and Spa, the newly restored heritage event spaces of Ayrburn in Arrowtown, and Tauranga’s Historic Village. New activity operators like Auckland’s Social Nature Movement will offer outdoor guided immersive nature experiences. At the same time, newly opened hotels such as Auckland Hotel Indigo and InterContinental Auckland will also be featured.
Sustainability is at the forefront of MEETINGS 2024. Toitū is collaborating with the event team to provide exhibitors with resources for measuring and reducing their carbon footprint. MEETINGS’ caterers, KAK Hospitality, are partnering with Feeding Rotorua to donate suitable leftover food, while Ecostock will process other food waste to create biogas, stock feed, and fertilizer. Additionally, hosted buyer flights and travel will be offset through Air New Zealand’s FlyNeutral program.
Attendees are encouraged to adopt eco-friendly practices by bringing reusable bags, coffee cups, and water bottles, using the MEETINGS App, and walking to the venue if staying locally. Name badge pouches will be optional, and instead of welcome gifts, hosted buyers will have the opportunity to donate to local charities such as Waiariki Women’s Refuge, Ka Pai Kai Rotorua school lunches, and the National Kiwi Hatchery.
MEETINGS 2024 promises to be a groundbreaking event, blending business with sustainability and cultural immersion. Day buyer registration is free on the MEETINGS website, offering attendees the flexibility to attend for any duration, from two hours to two days. Registered day buyers will receive priority access to education sessions, complimentary activities in Rotorua, and return transport from Auckland.
Lisa Hopkins underscores the value of this year’s event, stating, “This year’s destination, Rotorua, is proving to be a drawcard for both exhibitors and buyers who are excited to experience New Zealand’s cultural heartland and immerse themselves in the restorative qualities of this special place and meet its people.” With its record-breaking scale and innovative approach, MEETINGS 2024 is set to be a landmark event for the business events industry in New Zealand and beyond.
