From its origins in 17th-century Netherlands to its presence today, gin has been ‘distilled’ in true traditional form since then. Distillers, bartenders, and enthusiasts alike have upheld the procedures of gin-making, to ensure the spirit remains a cherished cornerstone of their cocktail culture. Throughout history, gin cocktails have left an indelible mark on the cocktail landscape. From classic concoctions like the Negroni and the Gin Martini to modern twists such as our GinArt inspired by Frida Kahlo and the French 75, gin has continuously captivated drinkers with its endless possibilities.
Each distillery we have in the new Gineria book, from London Dry Gin, to Jerry Thomas, the Distilleria dell’Alpe, Nordés of Spain, to Tanqueray and Scapegrace Black from New Zealand, and Roku Gin from Japan to name a few of the 100 plus gins on the menu, brings its own unique technique and approach to the distilling process, resulting in a diverse array of flavour profiles that reflect the passion and expertise of the distiller, almost like a perfume maker.

Whether sipped neat, mixed into a classic cocktail, or enjoyed as part of a modern creation, gin has long been a symbol of conviviality and camaraderie, and as Sir Winston Churchill commented, who was also a regular at the Grand hotel Savoia back in the early 20th century “The Gin & Tonic has saved more Englishmen’s lives, and minds, than all the doctors in the Empire.”
