6K3A0614In the esteemed maritime city of San Juan, Puerto Rico, a momentous event marked the inauguration of a new chapter in luxury cruising. On December 2, the much-anticipated christening ceremony of Emerald Cruises’ latest masterpiece, the Emerald Sakara, captivated an exclusive audience with its grandeur and promise of unparalleled luxury at sea.

The event was graced by industry luminaries, including Kelly Craighead, President and CEO of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), who had the honour of christening the yacht. Joined by Scenic Group Founder and Chairman Glen Moroney and Ken Muskat, Managing Director for the US, the ceremony was a testament to the yacht’s significance in the evolving landscape of luxury cruising.

In the backdrop of San Juan’s Pier 4 East terminal, the event unfolded with a series of speeches that highlighted not only the yacht’s splendour but also its role in redefining the standards of luxury travel. Glen Moroney, Brad Dean, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico, and other dignitaries extolled the virtues of this magnificent vessel, while Captain Rob O’Leary, the captain of Emerald Sakara, oversaw the proceedings.

The christening ceremony, a blend of tradition and spectacle, was marked by breaking a champagne bottle against the yacht’s hull, a ritual steeped in maritime lore. The ceremony culminated in a dramatic display by flyboarders, adding a touch of modern flair to the time-honoured tradition.

The Emerald Sakara stands as a paragon of luxury and innovation. With its 50 deluxe staterooms and suites, the yacht promises an intimate yet opulent experience. The yacht’s features include an open-air infinity pool, a wellness deck with a spa and gym, and a variety of water toys for adventurous guests. The La Cucina dining room and Amici Lounge offer culinary delights and social spaces to enhance the guest experience.

Beyond luxury, the Emerald Sakara embodies a commitment to environmental stewardship. Adhering to the highest standards, its engines comply with IMO tier III emission regulations, and the yacht utilizes recycled energy and advanced sewage treatment systems. This commitment aligns with CLIA’s advocacy for sustainable tourism, a cause championed by Kelly Craighead.

Craighead’s role as the yacht’s godmother symbolises her leadership and vision in guiding the cruise industry through challenging times, particularly during the global pandemic. Under her stewardship, CLIA has advocated for a sustainable and responsible future for cruising.

The launch of Emerald Sakara marks a significant milestone in the journey of Emerald Cruises and the Scenic Group. It represents not just a new addition to their fleet but a bold statement in the world of luxury travel. For those seeking to indulge in the finest cruising experience, the Emerald Sakara beckons with the promise of  unforgettable journeys on the high seas.
