Routes Asia logoIn a significant development for the Asia Pacific aviation industry, the CAPA World Aviation Summit announced on November 28 that Perth, Australia, will host the prestigious Routes Asia 2025. Scheduled for March 25th-27th, this event, supported by Perth Airport and Tourism Western Australia, alongside Business Events Perth and Business Events Australia, marks a strategic milestone in defining the region’s air connectivity.

Routes Asia is a pivotal platform, bringing together airline decision-makers, airport authorities, and destination representatives across Asia Pacific. The conference is known for its influential role in shaping future air travel, with over 80 leading and emerging airlines participating. Perth’s selection as the host city underscores its rising prominence in the aviation sector.

Tourism plays a critical role in Western Australia’s economy. In 2021-21, the sector supported approximately 30,000 businesses and generated over 89,000 jobs. The 2022-23 period saw a significant contribution of $16.8 billion in visitor spending. Increased air connectivity is a cornerstone of Western Australia’s strategy to sustain and amplify this economic trajectory.

Having recuperated 90% of its international traffic to pre-pandemic levels, Perth is now focusing on establishing direct aviation links with key markets, including China, India, South Korea, Taiwan, and other untapped regions. Hosting Routes Asia 2025 will showcase Perth’s potential and profitability in these new routes to Asia’s leading airlines.

Recent developments at Perth Airport, such as the upcoming non-stop Qantas service to Paris and new direct flights to Ho Chi Minh City by VietJet Air and Vietnam Airlines, highlight the city’s growing aviation footprint. The resumption of ANA’s Perth-Tokyo service further enhances its network.

Steven Small, Director of Routes, emphasized the economic prosperity driven by increased air connectivity. “By hosting Routes Asia, Perth becomes central to discussions that will shape the future of air routes in the region,” Small remarked. He acknowledged the Western Australian Government’s focus on hosting significant events, expressing confidence in the summit’s success.

Carolyn Turnbull, Managing Director of Tourism WA, expressed enthusiasm about leveraging Routes Asia 2025 to strengthen Perth’s air links with Asia. “This event is a remarkable opportunity for Western Australia, allowing us to build more direct connections and fortify Perth’s position as the Western Gateway to Australia,” she stated.

The anticipation for Routes Asia 2025 in Perth reflects a vibrant future for the city and the region. With its strategic location and rising prominence in the aviation sector, Perth is poised to welcome industry leaders and showcase its capabilities as a significant player in Asia Pacific’s air travel and tourism landscape.
