The latest evolution of Hilton’s recruitment process will see the global hospitality company run the pilot in Australia for six weeks from today until mid-December, to fill a diverse range of roles across its 17 properties. From bar attendants and hotel front desk receptionists to food and beverage team members and more – anyone with working rights in Australia and a TikTok account can apply.

The announcement comes as new research commissioned by Hilton reveals 68% of Gen Z’s would rather apply for a job via social media than write a resume, and 82% say that the time it takes to write a resume and cover letter can discourage them from applying all together*.

What’s more, 43% of 18–24-year-old job hunters say they face numerous barriers when applying and securing work, including not having “relevant” experience**, while 63% believe that written applications do not allow them to represent their best self during the recruitment process.

It’s no wonder that further research from leading recruitment and HR services company, Randstad,** reveals social media has become a key hunting ground today for jobs. One in four job seekers under 35 have recently found a job on social media and nearly half (45%) of Gen Z’s use TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube & Snapchat to land their dream role**.

“Our research shows Australians are increasingly turning to social media to find their next gig. This isn’t surprising when too often the traditional application process can be labour-intensive and doesn’t allow one’s true personality and skills to shine through.” said Mary Hogg, regional human resources director, Australasia, Hilton.

“Behind every stay at a Hilton, there are hundreds of extraordinary people who work together to make it a seamless, magical experience for every guest. TikTok encourages people to be their real, authentic selves and this is exactly what we want to see as an employer that values diversity.

“In adding TikTok into our recruitment channel mix, we can build a diverse workforce, simplify the application process, and remove barriers. Anyone and everyone is truly welcome to apply.” Hogg continued.

Jo Jakobs, director NSW Randstad, comments, “Building a healthy talent pipeline that spans multiple generations offers enormous benefits, from encouraging innovation to promoting the sharing of best practices and different perspectives.

“We know from our research that different generations are increasingly looking in different places to find work – with Gen Z’s eyes turning to social media. Embracing a multi-channel approach in recruitment will help to attract that all important diversity and supercharge potential through a future-ready workforce.”
