In an exciting move to transform its passengers’ flying experience, Air India has launched Upgrade+. This innovative service enables travellers to secure immediate, guaranteed upgrades to the airline’s premium cabins at fixed rates.
The new Upgrade+ service allows travellers holding eligible Air India reservations to opt for upgrades to superior cabins anytime between 72 hours and 12 hours before their flight’s departure, subject to availability. This provides a simple and effective way for passengers to enhance their travel experience. In addition, guests can purchase cabin upgrades directly at the airline’s airport counters during check-in.
The unveiling of Upgrade+ comes with the cessation of the ‘Bid Upgrade’ scheme, a prior method whereby passengers could bid for a cabin upgrade and would then have to wait up to four hours pre-flight for the upgrade decision.
Upgrade+ is not just about seating enhancement; it offers Air India passengers upgraded amenities and services. Passengers can look forward to an elevated flight experience, which includes increased baggage allowance, priority check-in at dedicated counters, priority boarding, expedited baggage handling, and a host of onboard amenities. In addition, passengers will enjoy a gastronomical delight with an improved culinary offering.
Nevertheless, despite the luxurious benefits of Upgrade+, it’s important to note that the fare conditions of the original booking still apply to the upgraded booking. This includes stipulations on cancellation, rebooking fees, and accrual of Flying Returns miles.
Upgrade+ applies to all three premium cabins Air India offers: Premium Economy (presently offered only on select flights to North America), Business Class (available on all domestic and international routes), and First Class (accessible on chosen long-haul routes).
For passengers to take advantage of Upgrade+, they must have confirmed Air India-issued booking documents for flights operated by the airline. Eligible travellers will receive an email invitation to upgrade their bookings or verify their eligibility using the widget on the Upgrade+ webpage.
