The Hong Kong International Aviation Academy (HKIAA) is awarded the prestigious Platinum / Training Centre of Excellence in the TRAINAIR PLUS Programme (TPP) by International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the highest recognition of the Programme. HKIAA is the world’s second organisation to have received an Airports Council International (ACI)-ICAO TPP-Airport dual recognition. The recognitions were presented to HKIAA during the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium 2023 hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and the Transport of the Republic of Korea in Seoul on 31 May 2023.
The TRAINAIR PLUS Programme promotes global collaboration in aviation training. By providing a methodology that streamlines and standardises aviation courses, the programme aims to support civil air transport in sustaining a safe, secure and steady development. HKIAA has been a member of the ICAO TPP since June 2017, acquiring Full Membership and Gold Full Membership in 2019 and 2022 respectively.
The dual ICAO-ACI recognition is the initiative of the two organisations to support the effective implementation of ICAO standards and ACI best practices through the provision of enhanced airport training activities, encompassing both organisation’s safety, security, and sustainability provisions.
Simon Li, President of HKIAA, said, “We are honoured to receive the advanced recognition from ICAO. The Academy has been providing a diverse range of programmes and courses to over 230,000 local, Mainland, and overseas participants since 2017. We are glad that our continuous efforts are acknowledged. Looking ahead, we shall further innovate and expand our courses for regional aviation talent. We will strive to be the pioneer incubator to nurture and enrich industry specialists to serve the ever-growing aviation industry.”
In the same occasion, HKIAA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Oman Airports Management Company S.A.O.C to further strengthen the training partnership established last year.
HKIAA offers comprehensive aviation-related curriculum to aviation professionals and industry newcomers, ranging from aviation summer day camps, placement programmes, to professional certificate courses and accredited programmes. In addition to the academic programmes such as Diploma in Aviation Operations and Professional Diploma in Aviation Management, to facilitate its development as a regional aviation training hub, HKIAA has partnered with renowned Ecole Nationale de I’Aviation Civile (ENAC) since 2017 to co-organise the 18-month part-time Advanced Master of Air Transport Management programme which provides an excellent platform for managerial executives in the industry from Hong Kong, the Mainland and Belt and Road countries to exchange their insightful experiences.
