Intrepid Travel has released dates and plans for its 2024/2025 Antarctica season, offering 13 trips, including three newly designed itineraries, that will explore more of the South Georgia Islands and expand on their wildlife offerings.
This past year, Intrepid became a true seven-continent operator after their inaugural Antarctica sailing in November 2022. Over the course of the season, the tour operator ran 13 expeditions highlighted by their two signature departures in partnership with WWF-Australia, which supports critical research in helping to protect and conserve whale marine highways.
Intrepid’s Antarctica program features a wide range of activities and experiences including zodiac wildlife viewings, the polar plunge, Citizen Science projects, a photography program, kayaking, and on select sailings, snow camping and snow shoeing.
The 2024/2025 Antarctica range will not only include new itineraries but features a new pricing approach to provide travellers with a better deposit structure and better lead in pricing for each cabin category. Previously, deposits were set at a fixed 20 per cent. For the new season, Intrepid will offer a lower fixed deposit of $1,500 AUD for trips 14 days and under, and $3,000 AUD for trips longer than 14 days.
The three new itineraries include:
21-Day Shackleton’s Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica (From $21,940 AUD)
This journey will mark the first voyage of the season, beginning in Puerto Madryn, Argentina, exploring historical sites steeped in epic tales, before departing by ship. Travellers will take in the endless scenery at sea while spotting breaching whales and other marine mammals. They will explore the Falkland Islands, walk among enormous penguin colonies in South Georgia, and witness the towering glaciers of the Antarctica Peninsula before journeying through the infamous Drake’s Passage to conclude the trip in Ushuaia.
12-Day Best of Antarctica: Whale Discovery (From $11,790 AUD)
This 12-Day itinerary was designed particularly for wildlife-enthusiasts, following the migration paths of enormous humpback whales, while discovering sea birds, penguins and seals along the way. The newly revised itinerary includes additional time exploring the Antarctica Peninsula for more opportunities to witness mother nature in its truest form and participate in Citizen Science programs to help onboard scientists identify and track whale movement for critical research studies.
23-Day Ultimate Antarctic: Falklands, South Georgia & the Circle (From $28,280 AUD)
This newly expanded top-selling trip is the ultimate all-encompassing Antarctica journey. The expedition covers everything from the fascinating history and stunning scenery of the Falklands and South Georgia, to seven full days of breathtaking wildlife viewings in the Antarctica Peninsula, and an adventurous crossing of the Drake’s Passage. The new itinerary will also travel south of the Antarctica Circle, passing immense glaciers before reaching 66°33’S in latitude at the end of the earth.
