Princess Cruises, the world’s most famous cruise line, has announced the name of its second extraordinary Sphere Class cruise ship – the Star Princess. Set to embark on its maiden voyage in August 2025, and the Star Princess will treat guests to an unforgettable season of Mediterranean voyages.
Currently being constructed at Italy’s Fincantieri shipyard, the Star Princess will join the Sun Princess as the largest ship ever built for Princess Cruises, weighing an impressive 175,500 tons and accommodating 4,300 guests. This remarkable vessel introduces a unique platform that embraces the rich heritage of Princess Cruises while capturing the essence of oceanic romance with its breathtaking outward views.
Despite being 20 per cent larger than the company’s existing ships, the Star Princess maintains the intimate ambience that Princess Cruises is celebrated for a while, introducing groundbreaking spaces that will undoubtedly captivate passengers. Among the noteworthy additions are exciting new food and beverage concepts, an expanded casino, a two-story Lotus Spa, and mesmerizing entertainment headlined by the renowned Cirque Éloize. The ship’s accommodations have also been enhanced, offering guests luxurious staterooms and suites, including the exclusive Reserve and Signature Collections.
The Star Princess will proudly feature the exclusive Princess Medallion service, a testament to the company’s commitment to delivering unparalleled personalized experiences. This innovative technology has solidified Princess Cruises’ position as a leader in the industry.
In addition to its luxurious amenities, the Star Princess will be the second vessel in the Princess fleet to operate on LNG (liquefied natural gas) fuel technology, highlighting the company’s dedication to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
On August 4, 2025, the Star Princess will commence its inaugural voyage, a remarkable nine-day roundtrip journey from Rome (Civitavecchia), exploring the captivating destinations of Corfu, Kotor, Mykonos, Santorini, and Naples (for Capri and Pompeii). Following this enchanting itinerary, the ship will offer a variety of 9- and 10-day cruises departing from Rome, Athens, or Trieste (Venice), with visits to picturesque coastal ports. Reservations for Star Princess cruises will be available for booking starting June 1, 2023, as part of the larger Europe 2025 program release.
President of Princess Cruises, John Padgett, expressed his admiration for the Star Princess, highlighting its sleek design, spacious interiors, and remarkable views it offers. He emphasized that the ship retains a sense of familiarity for guests while incorporating numerous new and enhanced experiences for them to enjoy.
The Star Princess is not Princess Cruises’ first vessel to bear this distinguished name. The original Star Princess initially set sail in 1988 under the name Sitmar Fair Majesty. Following the merger of Sitmar Cruises into Princess Cruises, the ship was rechristened as Star Princess in 1989, with the legendary actress and humanitarian Audrey Hepburn serving as its godmother. The second Star Princess was launched in 2002 as the third Grand-Class vessel. It played a pivotal role in shaping the brand’s evolution by introducing groundbreaking features such as Anytime Dining, which revolutionized the dining experience by granting guests the freedom to dine when, where, and with whom they desired.
