Horizon Yachts Australia FD90 Exterior Gold CoastSanctuary Cove, a luxury destination in Southeast Queensland, has expanded its superyacht berthing capabilities by opening its new $3.5 million Pier C development. The expansion brings the marina’s superyacht berthing capabilities to 39. It is part of the destination’s 2023 strategy to address the growing demand for permanent and transient superyacht berths in the Sunshine state. The development was carried out by Mulpha and came after the completion of Sanctuary Cove’s $10 million marina expansion in June 2021.

The new development has added 31 berths to the marina. It includes the appointment of Australia’s former Below Deck Chief Stewardess, TV Presenter and Yachtie, Francesca Rubi, as the official Ambassador of the Sanctuary Cove Marina. Her position is to spearhead the campaign to attract more superyachts to the destination.

“We are thrilled to officially unveil Pier C as part of our greater superyacht focused plans to address the growing desire from national and international superyacht captains to berth at Sanctuary Cove,” said General Manager of Mulpha Sanctuary Cove Marina, Steve Sammes. “The demand for more large-scale berthing opportunities in the South-East is increasing and there is an invaluable economic opportunity to invest in more superyacht-driven piers on our coastline. Sanctuary Cove is superyacht ready, now.”

In December 2022, Sanctuary Cove Marina was one of seven marinas to receive its Superyacht Ready accreditation and the Marina Industries Association’s Gold Anchor and Superyacht Ready accreditations. The marina successfully met the suitability criteria of the marina’s infrastructure to accommodate superyachts, accessibility for superyachts, security measures, and service availability.

The new Pier C arm development is expected to succeed, according to Francesca Rubi, who is delighted to take on the Sanctuary Cove Marina Ambassador role. “Offering more opportunities to berth superyachts at Sanctuary Cove will no doubt be a success,” she said. “Bigger vessels are being built, people are travelling more in the comfort of their yachts, and Sanctuary Cove has opened the perfect stop for them.”

Sanctuary Cove is home to four man-made harbours with direct access to the Broadwater and Pacific Ocean, making it an ideal destination for superyachts. The precinct also offers a wide range of dining, shopping, leisure, and boating activities, all surrounded by the world-class InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort, Golf and Country Club. Recently, a fleet of new restaurants, including Pablito’s Mexican Cuisine and Tequilaria, Rise Bakery, Destino Wine Bar, and more, have opened their doors at the Sanctuary Cove precinct to cater to the growing demand of local and international visitors.

With the launch of the new Pier C development, Sanctuary Cove is poised to become the ultimate superyacht destination in Southeast Queensland. As the demand for superyacht berths in the region continues to grow, the new development will provide more opportunities for national and international superyacht captains to berth at Sanctuary Cove, contributing to the economic growth of the region.

In summary, expanding Sanctuary Cove’s marina to include Pier C is a significant development for Southeast Queensland. With its new Superyacht Ready accreditation, the marina is poised to become a hub for superyachts, contributing to the growth of the local economy. The appointment of Francesca Rubi as the official Ambassador of the Sanctuary Cove Marina is expected to boost the destination’s profile and attract more superyachts to the region. The addition of new restaurants at the Sanctuary Cove precinct is further evidence of the growing demand.
