To celebrate National Day of the People’s Republic of China, Melco Resorts & Entertainment hosted a Splendors of China event as part of the program to instill patriotism and national pride through its in-house education curriculum.

Mr. Lok Po, Member of the NPC and Director of Macau Daily News and Professor Zhu Shoutong, Director of Centre for Chinese History and Culture and Director of Research Centre for Humanities in South China of the University of Macau were the event’s guest speakers, sharing their views on ‘Red History in Macau’ and the ‘Significance of Chinese culture as the mainstream’ to Melco colleagues and members of the community.

The event featured an exciting Chinese cultural arts performance by the martial arts team of Escola dos Moradores de Macau and Escola dos Moradores do Bairro do Patane, the primary group division winner of the 2nd Melco Star Macau – Youth Talent Competition who were selected from among approximately 900 student participants from 55 schools and art institutions. The Company was also honored to invite Master Sou Kam Leong from the China Calligraphers Association to demonstrate the charm of Chinese calligraphy before the audience, together with Melco Director of Business Risk Mr. Benny Lei performing the traditional martial arts of Hung Kuen as Table Games department colleagues supported drumming.

Event Guests of Honor included Mr. Sun Yao Hua, Director of the Department of Economic affairs of  Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao SARMs. Cheong Man Fai, Head of the Youth Department of the Education and Youth Development Bureau and Mr. Sam Hou In, Head of Department of Exhibitions and Museums of the Cultural Affairs Bureau.

During the event, Mr. Lawrence Ho, Chairman & CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, said, “Splendors of China demonstrates Melco’s commitment in promoting national pride and patriotism through education and awareness. Melco will continue to implement the Splendors of China learning program through its systematic framework, providing comprehensive knowledge about China through promoting Chinese cultural heritage, economic policies, social systems and values whilst cultivating nationalism and patriotism.”

Launched in 2016, Melco’s Splendors of China program focuses on promoting patriotism and the principle of ‘Loving the Country, Loving Macau’ through education on the culture, history, modernization and latest development of the Motherland to Melco colleagues and the wider community. Over 9,000 colleagues have completed the ‘Splendors of China Passport Program’, with 98% of participants indicating that the program has made them more proud of China’s culture, and which has enabled them to become interested in developing further learning on Chinese history and culture.

Melco’s Splendors of China Passport Program is a holistic curriculum which covers mandatory courses on Chinese culture, economic growth and history. Philosophy and values are taught through Chinese idioms; electives include experiential exposure to exhibitions and events participation through Chinese knowledge competitions.  

To encourage cultural awareness at a younger age, the Chinese performance arts competition Melco Star Macau has been held consecutively for the past two years, with participation from over 1,600 elementary, primary and high school student youth representatives from 55 Macau schools, arts institutions and youth associations.
