Newer Hotels & Event Venues
The brand new Best Western Colfax opened in spring 2022 close to shops and eateries in downtown Colfax. This new property adds accommodations in proximity to numerous hiking trails, especially popular in the spring for wildflower blooms. Windy Point Trail and Stevens Trail offer a rare wildflower display in spring, including the famous California poppies. Both are located in the Auburn State Recreation Area (ASRA) and are sure to catch your gaze with their vibrant colors, from peaches and oranges and deep blues and reds. Sitting alongside the American River Canyon, these remote trails extend over 4 miles and end at the rushing waters of the North Fork of the American River.
Set to open in fall 2022, Sky River Casino, in Elk Grove will include 100,000 square feet of gaming floor space, with restaurants, a pub and a marketplace.
The Sierra Pines Resort in Sierra City is under new ownership and is welcoming visitors to enjoy the pristine lakes and spectacular peaks of this mountain town. The resort comprises 40 acres of beautiful Sierra timberland through which State Highway 49 and the North Fork of the Yuba River meander for a third of a mile. The tree growing through the roof of the lobby is a century old Royal Ann Cherry Tree which still bears fruit every year. The trout pond in front of the lodge is 10 feet deep in the center and holds several thousand trout. Sierra Pines is a great place to start your next family tradition. This summer, the resort introduced its new chef, Patricia Harris. Harris, worked for Duck Dynasty, then moved to Southern Louisiana then North Carolina where she was executive chef The Root & Barrel Kitchen.

The recently opened Springhill Suites Auburn contains 128 suites offering travelers another option for lodging close to Placer County’s world-class outdoor recreation. Opened late 2019, Homewood Suites by Hilton in Rancho Cordova. Opening 2022, Townplace Suites by Marriott in Rancho Cordova.
The Venue at Thunder Valley, a brand new 150,000 square foot state-of-the art entertainment venue, will open in 2023 in Placer County. The Venue will feature 4,500 seats and host musical acts, comedic performances and sporting events, and will provide large event space for conferences and banquets.
Events
Three major events are returning to Folsom this year. The 4th of July hasn’t been the same without the Folsom Pro Rodeo, but it’s back in 2022. The patriotic event offers family fun with non-stop rodeo action, outstanding nightly fireworks, mutton busting, a high American flag which arrives by skydiver and much more! The Harris Center for the Performing Arts will kick off its 22/23 season in September. and the Foothill Wine Fest will return in 2023, dates TBD.
Outdoor Adventures
Part of the UTMB World Series, the Canyons Endurance Runs will add a 100-mile distance to the April 2023 event, joining the three current courses, including a 100km, 50km and 25km, and will continue to cross some of the most scenic and challenging sections of the iconic Western States Trail. The Canyons Endurance Runs starts in the historic gold-rush town of Auburn, birthplace of mountain ultras in the northern California foothills of the Sierra Nevada range. The UTMB World Series is the world’s leading trail running circuit, with the UTMB World Series Finals taking place in Chamonix, France
Don Pedro Lake, nestled in the Sierra Nevada Foothills, offers 160 miles of shoreline with 13,000 surface acres of water to enjoy. This summer, the Lake is opening new, dog friendly hiking trails
Saluti Ranch, home of Saluti Winery, has opened the Saluti Equestrian Center which offers trail rides, lessons, pony rides and other horse experiences with more than 500 acres of trails. The Equwine Experience is a great way to take in the breathtaking El Dorado County wine region. The vineyard horseback ride is coupled Saluti Cellars wine tasting, stand out as a true Gold Country experience.
This past spring, California State Parks, and members of the Chinese American community celebrated the opening of the Gam Saan Trail that connects Hennigsen Lotus Park with Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park. Gam Saan, meaning Gold Mountain in Cantonese, was the historical name given to the gold fields of California by Chinese forty-niners and miners.
Dodge Ridge Mountain Resort will open its inaugural season of disc golf this summer. Players ascend to 7,400 ft elevation via chairlift to begin their round on the White Thorn course. Enjoy the cool breeze and beautiful views of Sonora Pass and across the Central Valley as you play 18 holes while descending on foot to our base area at 6,600 ft.
Quarry Park Adventures in Rocklin is a one-of-a-kind outdoor experience with adventure activities like zip lines and free-fall jumps to tranquil paddle boat rides, – something for every speed. What really makes it a unique experience is the site on which the park is located. Quarry Park is built into and around what was one of the largest working granite quarries in California, the Big Gun Quarry. The park utilizes the huge quarry’s sheer walls, the quarry’s floor, the quarry rim, the 2-acre lake and even the 60-foot-high waterfall.
Wine, Food & More
The Armory in Sonora is now open! This is a beautiful multilevel indoor/outdoor space with over 20 beers on tap delicious seasonal food and a massive indoor event space. They’re serving a menu of upscale, perfectly-executed food alongside beer, wine, hard seltzer, hard kombucha, hard cider, canned cocktails, fresh margaritas, and barrel-aged Manhattans on their roof-top patio and in their lush Beer Garden.
The Tuolumne County Craft Beverage Trail allows visitors to sip their way from Sonora to Yosemite on the Tuolumne County Craft Beverage Trail. Raise a glass to the past near Columbia State Historic Park or grab a growler of your favorite brew in Groveland! No hiking necessary!
The newly opened Château d’ Estienne sits on top of a hill with incredible views of the Sierra Foothills Mountain range. Batia Vineyards has opened a new tasting room on Main Street in Placerville, specializing in French varietals like Marsanne, Grenache, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Viognier.
Looking for something other than wine? The new Copper Room Wine & Whiskey Lounge tempts the palate, located underneath the Historic Hotel Sutter in Sutter Creek. Tuck into a corner booth or spread out at the historic long bar to enjoy local and specialty whiskeys, craft beer, and more. Down the road in Amador City, the new Breakeven Beermakers’ small brewery, tasting room, and (coming soon) kitchen provide a “holistic food and drink experience.” They also run a small farm that will supply ingredients to the brewery and kitchen.
