APT has launched two unique trips to see Australia’s largest inland lake Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre – one by private small plane, and one by 4WD. Both journeys include scenic flights over the lake.

Lake Eyre and Outback South Australia by Private Plane is a four-day journey from Adelaide which includes the scenic flight over the lake and outback, as well as a visit to massive Mt Eba Station, a working sheep and cattle property that extends over 832,000 acres.

Guests also land to view the extraordinary Anna Creek Painted Hills – rocky outcrops which emerge abruptly from the flat surrounding country, and change colour with the light and time of day. The hills can only be accessed by light plane, so landing to explore is a real highlight.  The trip is priced from $5,195 per person twin share, inclusive of savings of $500 per person.

Commenting on the new tours, APT’s General Manager Product, Mladen Vukic said; “Our Lake Eyre 4WD tours are always a popular choice and they will sell out fast, so we are equally pleased that we can introduce a new style of travel for our guests so they can experience the natural wonder aboard a private plane journey.”

Lake Eyre and Flinders Ranges is a seven-day return luxury 4WD journey from Adelaide. Priced from $5,295 per person twin share, with savings of up to $1,000 per couple, the trip includes three scenic flights on one epic day – soaring over the Tirari Desert and the Birdsville Track, Goyder Lagoon and the Diamantina River, the Simpson Desert, the mysterious Marree Man and Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre.

The journey also explores Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park and the spectacular Gammon Ranges, staying at Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary, which is designed to preserve a unique eco-system and its wildlife for future generations.
Port Augusta and its award-winning Wadlata Outback Centre, a ride on the Pichi Richi heritage steam railway, lunch at Parachilna’s famous Prairie Hotel, Aroona Dam and its spectacular ochre-coloured pits, as well as a visit to the ghost town of Farina are also on the itinerary.
