Normal Carr Cottage, located in the popular southern shores of Lake Malawi, have been applying themselves to the usual up keep and improvements to welcome guests to a refreshed and revamped lodge.
There have been some major upgrades to the lodge, which was once home to the famous British conservationist Norman Carr. The refitting has seen their room offerings now at seven – six with King size beds and one adjoining room for families. All rooms have had a facelift and are looking inviting and fresh.
Alfie, their now 70 year old steel launch has had new engines fitted, complete with mated gearboxes and propellers. She’s looking great and is in use daily for the morning run to feed the fish Eagles and do a spot of snorkeling. Norman Carr also offer a sunset cruise which leaves at about 5pm and returns after sunset. A delightful experience for guests. Alfie was originally manufactured in Scotland on the Clyde for Sir Alfred Beit as his fishing boat on Lake Nyasa. Norman Carr Cottage also operate 2 smaller banana boats for a faster transfer, weather permitting.
A new campsite at Norman Carr Cottage is slowly taking shape too. The project began last year and the fitting out will continue and be completed this year. When finished, an ablution block building will accommodate 4 showers and 4 toilets.
Norman Carr Chikulu across on the opposite shore of the Lake, has also undergone a bit of work. The campsite is complete and is being well patronized by local guests. There are 3 rooms all ready for guests. The whole site is on solar, including the kitchen. Boat transfers are recommended between the two lodges but ever changing weather conditions on the lake may mean road transfers are more suitable. That being said, it’s a wonderful experience to take to the water and arrive at a pristine piece of paradise! For the landlubbers, the team will personally do a road transfer, stopping at Mangochi and Malindi.
A selection of videos have been produced by Norman Carr Cottage to give you an flavour of the two lodges, and their pristine surroundings. Take a look here:
