The city and its outstanding Palacongressi have been chosen to host next year’s General Assembly of the International Motorcycling Federation. As a parallel event in the same venue, the FIM Awards will be presented to world champions in all the disciplines which are part of the International Federation.
A choice that honours the Italian Exhibition Group venue and the long-standing bond between the local area and the world of motorcycles.
Rimini will take over where Montecarlo left off, having got the better of 4 other international bids, all of whom over recent months had submitted requests to host the most important international congress event in the motorcycling world.
A major event that will welcome 115 National Motorcycling Federations and 800 delegates from the four corners of the earth to the Palacongressi di Rimini and the city for one week between November and December 2022.
It was a prestigious outcome in terms of positioning for Rimini and the Emilia-Romagna region, not to mention the added tourist value.
The FIM board, led by President Jorge Viegas, chose to reward the work of a public-private team spearheaded by the Emilia-Romagna region and its President, Stefano Bonaccini, who flanked the Rimini administration contingent alongside Apt Servizi Emilia-Romagna, Motor Valley, Visit Romagna, Convention Bureau della Riviera di Rimini, Visit Rimini, Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”, Moab and the Italian Motorcycling Federation, presenting President Viegas with all the potential and drive that the local area has always displayed, its history, its passion for the motorbikes and the exceptional quality of its congress venues and accommodation.
“We managed to bring home this result because we firmly believe in the project and above all, because we joined forces and united the skills of everyone involved” commented Giovanni Copioli, President of the Italian Motorcycling Federation, who has recently transferred it head office to the prestigious Misano World Circuit.
“IEG, together with the Convention Bureau of the Rimini Riviera, is extremely satisfied with and honoured by this opportunity to stage the most prestigious congress event in the world of two-wheeled motorsport – commented IEG President, Lorenzo Cagnoni – It is a recognition of a region which, like motorcycling at its highest levels, has common core values that include goals, teamwork and great passion. IEG fits into this fabric with a trade fair and congress industry that stands out for its appeal on an international scale. I would like to thank the International Motorcycling Federation for recognising this commitment. And I would also like to thank all the players involved for their teamwork and perspective which led to a result that will have an extraordinary impact on the economy and image of our region.
