Kicking off the school holidays, the annual Eco Living Festival will offer more than 30 FREE live interactive sustainability events online to encourage participants around Australia to feel confident to create sustainable lifestyles and make choices that protect our environment.
The Eco Living Festival, presented by Randwick City Council, will bring together Australia’s top sustainability experts, including Dr Karl Kruszelnicki and Costa Georgiadis from Gardening Australia, to explore a range of hot sustainability questions in a COVID-safe way.
The Eco Living Festival will tackle some of the big questions facing us now and offer insights as to how we might move forward. Four weeks of themed webinars will allow participants to explore our coastline, understand ecosystems, reduce waste and get up-to-date with climate change.
“The Eco Living Festival is an empowering and engaging way for people to learn about sustainability and find the various ways they can make a difference,” explained Randwick Mayor Danny Said.
“Given current COVID restrictions, this is an exciting opportunity for the community to participate in live, informative, interactive experiences. It is accessible for everyone around Australia.
“It’s a chance to connect with each other and inspire change. Whether it’s through small lifestyle changes or by taking larger actions that benefit the community as well as the planet, there are a number of ways that kids and adults can contribute to a more sustainable world.”
There’s something for everyone with live workshops, talks, tours and movies throughout the four weeks. Experts include:
- Jackie French AM Australian author, ecologist, historian
- Jonica Newby, Author and ABC Catalyst presenter
- Robert Brander aka Dr Rip, Australia’s best known surf scientist
- Award-winning marine life film maker, George Evatt
- Renée Ferster Levy, ecologist and educator
Topics will address questions such as:
- Can Australia reach our zero emission target by 2030?
- Is the circular economy a fashion trend or here to stay?
- What’s involved in achieving a genuinely sustainable world?
- How will we get there and what are the hurdles along the way?
- What does sustainability look like in 2030 and in 2050?
The Eco Living Festival is fun for all the family and celebrates all that is green and sustainable. There are events on saving energy as well as money; electric vehicles and solar roofing; de-cluttering, sustainable fashion, and repurposing items; and even a forest bathing mindful workshop.
The school holidays kick off some kid-friendly activities with an Aboriginal cultural tour of the coastline, discovering marine animals at rock pools and along the coast, beach safety and nature play. Plus, there’s understanding biodiversity with live bugs and birds in your backyard, exploring inside a beehive and a story time that involves learning about wombats.
In addition, the reducing waste week will focus on composting, community gardens, cheaper organic food, recycling and how to cool your home with plants. The final week explores climate change leading up to COP 26 and how Australia can be a leader, starting with how to be carbon neutral. There will be talks on how to have positive climate change conversations and the impact that climate change has on our emotions and our health.
