Melco Resorts & Entertainment announces the launch of its Culinary Foundation Acceleration Program (Melco Culinary FAP), Macau’s first culinary program of its kind in collaboration with Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) and Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM).

In response to the ongoing demand for local culinary talent, Melco Culinary FAP is designed to nurture Macau residents to enhance interest and commitment to the local culinary industry. This is a culinary development training program dedicated to local talent—providing a variety of learning opportunities for the enhancement of vocational skills and career progression opportunities through Whole Person Development for talent from Melco, DSAL and IFTM.

The program will create career advancement opportunities for colleagues whilst providing new employment opportunities for local talent, and support trainees with the necessary culinary skills to meet the exciting prospects of the industry’s development. On June 29, Melco senior executives welcomed Mr. Wong Chi Hong, Director of Labour Affairs Bureau and Dr. Fanny Vong, President of Macao Institute for Tourism Studies to the Melco Culinary FAP launch event hosted at Studio City.

Over 56,000 participants have benefited from the Company’s multi-department Foundation Acceleration Program since it was launched in 2014, 97% of whom were local talent. Also, notwithstanding the COVID-19 pandemic, nearly 8% of all local Culinary colleagues received job promotions since 2020, more than 70% of whom were promoted during FAP training.

Ms. Akiko Takahashi, Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff to Chairman & CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, said, “We are thrilled to work with DSAL and IFTM to take Melco FAP to the next level. The Melco Culinary FAP will further develop local culinary talent amongst our colleagues and the community and help enhance career opportunities as part of our contribution to the diversified development of Macau and the Greater Bay Area.

“With seven Michelin-stars attained across four signature restaurants, we raise the bar and continue to innovate as we uphold our globally acclaimed position in the culinary world. We are constantly developing and upgrading our corporate social responsibility initiatives to meet the changing needs of the community and our people. We have provided training resources and led our Culinary colleagues to partake the Macau Integrated Tourism and Leisure Enterprises Vocational Skills Competition hosted by DSAL and FAOM, achieving particularly encouraging results in Culinary aspects. In addition, we are offering our strong support to DSAL’s CIEH food safety and national vocational skill certificate training. Melco YOU-niversity also supports our colleagues with education advancement, including offering a full scholarship to study for the Master of Science in International Gastronomy Management from IFTM.”

Mr. Wong Chi Hong, Director of Labour Affairs Bureau, said, “We are grateful for the continued support from Melco towards the cultivation of local employees and promoting the development of vocational skills of the local labor force. This is the first collaboration of its kind in the Culinary sector, which I hope will serve to inspire the same for more occupations and enterprises to come.”

Dr. Fanny Vong, President of Macao Institute for Tourism Studies, said, “The objective of the Melco Culinary FAP is to promote the professional development of local culinary talent. It provides participants with systematic culinary training through continued on-the-job education, enhancing personal qualities and work effectiveness, and promoting the upward mobility of local talent.”
