Agents right around Australia have secured a growing list of meetings with their local Federal Parliamentarians as the momentum for tailored support for the sector picks up pace ahead of the Federal Budget.

AFTA’s National Mobilisation Program (https://www.afta.com.au/afta/covid-19-updates/national-mobilisation-program) has seen members brief an impressive lineup of key political decision makers including the office of the Prime Minister and across all political parties.

The focus on securing tailored government support at a Federal, State and Territory level continues to deliver with multiple parliamentarians raising the case on the floor of Parliament, in media and directly to AFTA. Friday’s announcement from the Western Australian Government of its targeted $3m support package for travel agents is additional reinforcement of the collective benefit of working together strategically.

Quotes attributable to Darren Rudd, AFTA CEO.
“When the case for support is being shared from the floor of Parliament and across the airwaves, when we are hearing from the machinery of government that our calls for support are being shared and amplified across offices, and when local members and Senators are moving their diaries around to meet with their local travel agents, then we know that what we are doing is working. All this is already happening and we need to keep the momentum building.”

“The success in WA with the State Government announcing its $3m support package for eligible travel agents was the result of an intense and directed campaign at a local level led by Christine Ross-Davies of Attadale Travel & Snow Travel Experts and Jo-Anne Francis of Global Travel Solutions. AFTA was proud to work with our WA members to maximise their impact. The McGowan Government initiative provides a valuable precedent for us to go back and encourage other States and Territories to show similar support.”

“But the next prize is the Federal Government’s support. That’s the AFTA Board and I have been working with members and partipating where we can in the many local electorate briefings. Something changes when parliamentarians hear the passion, pain and commitment direct from our members and it’s that change that we need to keep driving because we are at a critical point.”

“I am hearing back from politicians how impressed they are with your passion, resilience, determination and professionalism as they truly get to understand you for the first time. We are having an impact and we need to stay focused and keep the pressure building. Please get on the phone, send that key email to your electorate office, and make that booking for the meeting.

If you don’t ask, they can’t say yes.”
