Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp is delighted to share some exciting news with anyone planning a gorilla trek to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the near future.
2 weeks ago, Businza, the oldest female member of the habituated Mubare mountain gorilla family who lives nearby – and occasionally even visits, the Camp, gave birth to baby gorilla.
The arrival of the infant has been met with widespread excitement by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, the Camp and other local tourism operators. Announcing the birth last week, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park’s Uganda Wildlife Authority Tourism Warden, Mbwebwe Peter, confirmed both mother and baby are in a very good health and condition.
“Businza, is the oldest mountain gorilla in Park, and a member of the first habituated group, Mubare, which we started tracking in April 1993 when gorilla tracking safaris really began in earnest.
“With just two populations of mountain gorillas left in the world, numbering about 1,000 in total, the species is critically endangered. Almost half of these live in Bwindi, the country’s oldest forest. So, any addition is clearly great cause for celebration.”
