Tomorrow marks the first day of winter and to celebrate the season change, WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo has introduced some of the native Australian animals to snow for the first time!

Eager to experience the exciting new element, the Kangaroo joeys hopped straight over to the snow and energetically frolicked in (and ate) their cool new toy.

Lauren Hodgetts, Keeper at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo said, “With the arrival of winter tomorrow, we thought we’d prepare some of our animals by putting out snow as part of their daily enrichment exercise.

“For our young joeys – Dusk and Dawn – it’s their first winter out of the pouch so it’s great to see how they interact with such a cool form of enrichment. They’reKangaroo Island Kangaroos and it gets pretty cold down there, so it’s great for them to experience snow in the heart of Sydney!”

New elements such as ‘snow’ help to stimulate the senses and satisfy both the physical and psychological needs of animals, it also helps allow them to make choices.
