Sovereign Hill will draw back the curtain of their Costume Department, offering guests a behind the scenes glimpse as part of the 2019 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival Arts Program.http://www.stevecafeandcuisine.com/

On Monday 4th March from 5.30pm – 7pm, fashion enthusiasts will be invited to join Sovereign Hill’s Costume Manager Erin Santamaria and her team for an exclusive insight into the living museum’s Costume Department and a look at some of the work in progress.

“Costume is one of the most recognisable aspects of Sovereign Hill’s interpretation of life on the Victorian goldfields and is a powerful tool in communicating how fashion, morality, etiquette and social structures have changed over time, ” says Erin.

“This one-off event provides an opportunity to learn not only about Victorian fashion, but the business model that sits behind this iconic aspect of the Sovereign Hill experience.”

The purpose and role of costume at Sovereign Hill is to support the museum’s historical narrative, by creating authentic characters who bring history to life for the learning and enjoyment of all visitors.  It’s also an essential component to effective storytelling and for visitors, provides the feeling of being ‘immersed’ in their experience of the 1850s.

As well as champagne and hors d’oeuvres, attendees on the night will be able to see some of the Sovereign Hill costumes up close, and gain an exclusive insight into how the costume department operates, providing historically accurate and authentic costumes to over 380 staff and 250 volunteers that work at Sovereign Hill.
