When Intercontinental Sydney Double Bay officially launched it’s new Rooftop Bar “re-enchanted by Champagne Perrier-Jouët” last week, the panoramic view across the rooftop swimming pool to Sydney Harbour provided a clue as to what makes the hotel far closer to downtown Sydney than many realise.

Intercontinental Sydney Double Bay is a five-minute walk (400 metres) from Double Bay Wharf (along Bay Street past Steyne Park). And Double Bay Wharf is just 17 minutes from Circular Quay by regular ferry.

As the hotel’s director of sales and marketing, David Janz, mentioned, if you put the two together, you have a quick link to Circular Quay, an alternative to using road or rail, both of which are also available. That’s useful for both business and leisure guests.

It’s also makes it easy for visitors to drop into the hotel’s new Rooftop Bar. During September, it’s open to public and in-house guests from Friday to Sunday, 11am until an hour after sunset. From October, Rooftop Bar is open to public and in-house guests Tuesday to Sunday, 11am until an hour after sunset.

Apart from sampling refreshing cocktails mixed with Champagne Perrier-Jouët – one of France’s most historic champagne houses, founded in 1811 in Epernay – visitors can relish a tapas-style poolside sharing menu.

Executive Chef Alex Vilches has designed the menu with the summer season in mind.

“Our new menu highlights delicious fresh produce such as Sydney Rock Oysters, salmon sashimi and grilled prawns. These summer poolside bites are complimented by our refreshing beverage offering, keeping the flavours light, fresh and delicious.”

The eye-catching makeover is the manifestation of the Maison Perrier-Jouët’s tradition of crafting nature into art. The maison’s free spirit and creative energy fuelled a fruitful partnership with Art Nouveau pioneer Emile Gallé, who designed the Maison’s iconic anemone flower motif in 1902.

The new colourful and contemporary anemone flower motif that is featured throughout the rooftop has been created by the Chicago-based artists Luftwerk to pay tribute to the celebration of energy of nature.
