Korean Air’s volunteer group “Didimdol” flew to the Bicol region, Philippines, to perform volunteer work for the local community. From August 12 to 18, members of Didimdol joined the local residents to build homes and provide free meals at local elementary schools and slum areas. Volunteers also provided basic medicine and nutritional supplements as the region lacks medical facilities.
Bicol encompasses the southern part of Luzon, the largest island in the Philippines, and is approximately 377km away from Manila. The region was severely ravaged by typhoon Rammasun in July 2014. Korean Air has been volunteering in the region every year since 2005.
Currently, Korean Air has a total of 27 volunteer groups actively helping with projects and community programs at orphanages, rehabilitation centers for the disabled, as well as senior care centers to support disadvantaged groups. The airline actively encourages and supports groups to perform volunteer activities in various countries, including the Philippines, Thailand and Mongolia.
As a leading global carrier, Korean Air will continuously support global volunteer activities in order to perform its corporate social responsibility as part of company’s initiatives to give back to the society.
