Spread the love

If you said to me “I need somewhere different to take my conference group” and I replied “take them across the channel to France!” you might think I have given you a generic, knee jerk response to valid request. France?! But we have been to Paris, Cannes AND Nice! We have done France!” you might exclaim, but hear me out; take them north to Normandy. More specifically let me introduce you to Fecamp; the beautiful little coastal town which has all the charms of traditional French life; fine food and beautiful architecture but without the fast paced affectations of typical modern cities. This is the France we dream of. Think accordions playing faintly down the street, creamy moules marinieres and fresh oysters. Boats that line port harbours and glisten in the sunshine, gorgeous churches, cobbled streets, quaint restaurants and beautiful cottages framed by impressive chalk white cliffs that stretch along the coastline.

Whilst everyone knows the most efficient way to get to France is the Eurostar, don’t be afraid to take other, more traditional modes of transport with your group. The ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe will take a few hours, but you would be surprised at how effectively this time can be used for networking and team bonding. If you wish there are a number of areas that can be used privately for business groups aboard the boat. Besides travelling by sea makes one feel like a pioneer of new worlds; “bring forth the boats dear Columbus, for today we set sail! By nightfall we shall brave the foreign lands and discover their delicacies!”

In the dreamy French town of Fecamp, Le Palais Benedictine proudly sits in all its imposing, Renaissance splendour. A beautifully ornate building that cannot help but invite you to take a step back in time and discover the history of it’s very own crowning jewel; the Benedictine liqueur. Groups can take a guided tour of the Palais, exploring and learning of its origins whilst the fragrant hops fill the vast halls and grand rooms. This is very much a sensory experience and one can enjoy the mastery of the liqueur through private tastings as well as beautiful cocktails available from the Tea Shop. Additional experiences include: the Benedictine Essence Olfactory in which guests can perfect their perfumery skills by blending the raw essence materials of Benedictine’s unique ingredients, the Connoisseur brings to life the art of the distillation process, Benedictine Gourmet allows one to enjoy the finest cuisine in the most luxurious of settings, but special mention has to go to The Benedictine Cocktail Workshop. This is a truly unique experience as small groups are given the opportunity to discover their inner Mixologist Extraordinaire; creating simple, yet outstanding cocktails coupled with complimentary sweet and savoury canapés!

I am a great believer that personal touches add priceless value to any experience and the care, attention and passion displayed by our professional mixologist Marc Jean; made the experience so incredibly memorable. Marc Jean has a lovely, easy-going style that allows him to stay in control of the workshop without ever dictating or creating a heavy atmosphere. Indeed guests are encouraged to have fun with their creations and each other, whilst still being able to appreciate his knowledge and expertise. This is an ideal recreational activity that can slot in easily after a day of meetings, conferences, or as an exciting pre-dinner event.

Fecamp is certainly a destination worth considering for any meetings or incentive trips; as it offers traditional, uncomplicated style and sophistication in a town steeped in history. Looking back on my time in Fecamp I am reminded of the wonderful food, the beautiful views of the sea from my hotel room, the splendid hospitality from my hosts, and of course the overwhelmingly delightful experience at Le Palais Benedictine! This visit was both hugely enjoyable and memorable and I very much look forward to returning to Fecamp and the Palais Benedictine again soon.

A bientot!!
