The supervisory board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH appointed Mr Patrick Muller as Head of Operations for the airport company at the meeting today. Other topics included the current discussions with banks, guarantors and shareholders on the final financing of the business plan, a budget increase for the construction of Terminal 2 and a report on the status of the completion of Berlin Brandenburg Airport.
Since the former Head of Operations left the company on 30.06.2018, the timely replacement for the new Head was necessary. In particular in terms of the ongoing process of the operational launch of Terminal 1, airline acquisition and coordination of the largest business division of more than 700 employees, fast staffing was of great importance. The airport has succeeded in gaining a recognised expert in Mr Muller, with explicit ORAT experience. In addition to this is Mr Muller’s broad and wide-ranging practice in the field of operations both in Germany and abroad.
Just as in the May meeting, the supervisory board intensively dealt with financial issues. A renewed referral to the supervisory board with this question is planned for the meeting in August.
As part of the regular reporting of BER, the supervisory board dealt with the status of the construction project.
The supervisory board has increased the budget for the construction of the new T2 terminal. In the current procurement process, it has been shown that construction costs offered are higher than comparative costs of other terminals, due to the tense market conditions. In order to be able to finish the procurement procedure promptly with a surcharge, the budget had to be increased by the expected additional costs and risk provisions. The construction timetable plans for completion by the summer of 2020. The date of commissioning of T2 will be determined in 2019, depending on the construction progress of the general contractor.
The Berlin-Brandenburg Higher Administrative Court ruled in three cases on 3rd July that FBB is obligated to include the living room kitchen, the living hall and a conservatory in the BER noise abatement programme in the plaintiffs’ residential buildings. An accurate evaluation will be made once the written statement has been given. Accordingly, the topic will be discussed in the next supervisory board meeting.

After today’s discussion, I am confident that we will be able to secure financing for the business plan at the next meeting. The budget increase for Terminal 2 was approved by the supervisory board after thorough discussion.“

In addition to the opening of BER in October 2020 with operational commissioning and trial operation, Mr Muller’s main task will be to maintain good flight operations in Tegel and Schönefeld. It is equally pleasing that we at BER have made further progress with the completion of construction work and are on schedule with corrective measures and ongoing expert inspections. In terms of the budget increase, the supervisory board has made it possible to place orders for the extension of terminal T2. The general contractor to be commissioned now has the task to complete within the specified construction schedule.”
