Tourism Malaysia and Jackie M – Malaysian born, Sydney-based hawker food expert – will take Australian online viewers to the Streets Food Journeys of Malaysia to showcase the ever-popular Street Food of Malaysia through a series of eight online live-cooking demonstrations. The series airs on the Masters of Malaysian Cuisine YouTube channel and Facebook starting from 2 May 2021, with a new episode to be released every Sunday at 9pm AEST for eight consecutive weeks.
Each episode covers a different state of Malaysia with a focus on its famous hawker dishes. The viewers are then transported to the kitchen where Jackie M and her celebrity-chef friends from Masters of Malaysian Cuisine (MOMC) demonstrate how to recreate these dishes at home using locally available ingredients. The eight episodes cover the states of Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Perak, Terengganu, Penang, Kedah and Sarawak.
Director of Tourism Malaysia in Sydney, Mr Tuan Razali said, “Malaysia is a food lover’s paradise and no visit is ever complete without the gastronomic adventure of Malaysia’s multi-ethnic culinary diversity”.
He continues, “Malaysian food is a rich embodiment of spices creating explosion of flavours in one’s food preparations. This ‘melting pot’ is a result of Malaysia’s multi-ethnic population that has melded together over the years sampling tastes, ingredients and cooking methods from each other. Each region in Malaysia has something unique to offer to everyone”.
Jackie M said, “I’m excited at the opportunity to celebrate Malaysia’s hawker offerings and to honour the people behind the food”, says the show’s host and producer Jackie M, whose own parents used to sell street food back in her hometown of Seremban.
She continues, “Covid-19 means we have to wait a little longer before we can travel again, but this series gives everyone a chance to virtually explore Malaysia’s diverse street food offerings and use it to inform their future travel plans to Malaysia.”
