As part of their “The Facebook Files” series last week, The Wall Street Journal uncovered internal documents revealing that Facebook has repeatedly found Instagram to be “toxic” to its younger audience, particularly teenage girls, for years.

The associated mental health concerns were specific to Instagram, and come after Instagram chief Adam Mosseri said in May that research suggests the app’s effects on teen mental health are “quite small”.
