Greyhound Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer, Dan Smith, who commences his new role in January 2022.
Mr Smith is an experienced business leader and strategist with a passion for organisational change, domestic and international economic development, and is renowned for creative implementation built across 30 years of management, corporate consulting, and leadership roles.
“I am humbled by my appointment to CEO by the board of directors, and excited by the plan we have set up and the team tasked with executing it,” Mr Smith said.
“I aim to continue the re-building this famous passenger and freight transport business to levels not been seen before, we will embrace technology and challenge old ways.”
Mr Smith’s diverse background has included management positions with Qantas and Qantas Holidays, Department of the Premier and Cabinet, and Queensland Sugar. For the past 10 years he has been a driving force at Greyhound Australia, most recently in the role of General Manager.
He has a drive and passion for customer-centric positioning of the business, which he also aims to bolster with strong, strategic business partnerships.
“The change is the final move of a 12-month planned, strategic restructure of the business that sees Greyhound Australia return to its core focus of long-distance coach travel and freight transportation,” Mr Smith said.
“While the current pandemic has been difficult, and I am sure it still has few more hurdles for us to jump over, it has also created opportunities for us to re-think and re-focus our business, which had diversified significantly prior to 2020.”
Since June 2017, former CEO Alex de Waal has successfully seen the business through some of the toughest periods in its 94-year history, and now hands over the steering wheel to Mr Smith whilst leaving the business strongly positioned for growth both financially and physically.
“Greyhound Australia pledges continued focus on delighting our customers with the provision of safe, reliable, and cost-effective passenger travel and freight delivery services and we are excited by what the future holds,” Mr Smith said.
