According to a Hotel Management report, IHG Hotels and Resorts and property developer ALAND have announced they have signed what they described as a landmark Master Development Agreement, which will bring Staybridge Suites, described as an upscale extended-stay brand, to Australia.

ALAND says it will have exclusive rights to develop a portfolio of at least 15 Staybridge Suites hotels with at least 2,000 rooms nationwide, with the first two being located in Parramatta and Leppington in Greater Western Sydney, endorsing the region’s role as the demographic centre of Sydney

They also report that the franchise agreements for the 130-room Staybridge Suites Sydney Parramatta and the 112-room Staybridge Suites Sydney Leppington have been secured and will be managed by Signature Hotel Management Group.

IHG Hotels and Resorts Managing Director, Australasia and Pacific, Matt Tripolone said, “This is a significant long-term development agreement for IHG in Australia”, adding, “Establishing a portfolio of at least 15 hotels and 2,000 rooms with one development partner gives us a clear pathway to build a meaningful position in the extended-stay segment, where we see considerable long-term opportunity”.

He added, “ALAND has substantial development capability and ambition, and we share a clear vision for the opportunity ahead” and “Bringing that alignment together with IHG’s brands, distribution and enterprise gives us a strong foundation to grow the partnership over the long term.”

The latest signing marks an established relationship between the hotel giant and ALAND, which includes last year’s opening of the 130-room Voco Gosford within the property group’s Archibald precinct.

“This agreement is an exciting evolution of our partnership with IHG and creates an opportunity to establish a significant new accommodation platform across Australia. We look forward to bringing the first hotels to Parramatta and Leppington and growing the portfolio nationally,” ALAND Founder and CEO, Andrew Hrsto, said.

Parramatta has won several recent development signings as it establishes itself as one of Sydney’s fastest-growing commercial and infrastructure hubs, while Leppington’s proximity to Western Sydney International Airport and the emerging Aerotropolis provides a complementary location for the brand’s extended-stay proposition.

Staybridge Suites offers residential-style accommodation, with 355 open hotels and a further 152 in the pipeline as of June 26 globally.
