Embark on an intriguing journey through the history and myths of Singapore and the Malay Peninsula with Punch Room Singapore’s launch of its Volume I Menu: “Little Blue Dot”. As the first outpost of EDITION Hotels’ global cocktail bar concept in Southeast Asia, Punch Room Singapore serves as a guiding beacon for those in search of their very own punch adventure; not unlike the island nation’s status as a gateway to Asia with its extensive maritime trade network. Little Blue Dot guides guests through the untold stories and urban legends of Singapore’s past and invites them to write their own adventures.
“Since we opened in November 2023, we’ve welcomed guests from all walks of life, from discerning cocktail aficionados to those who discovered us by chance, and we’ve enjoyed sharing the stories of punch and how its history is connected to Singapore,” says Giovanni Graziadei, Director of Bars at The Singapore EDITION. “We have taken this time to refine our signature punches and elevate our cocktail artistry to bring you Little Blue Dot, a testament to the evolution of this exciting journey of discovery. Each cocktail is a story, each sip an exploration of the rich tapestry of history and myth that makes this region so unique.”
Volume 1: Little Blue Dot was conceptualised and curated by Head Bartender Logaraj I M (affectionately known as Loga), and Punch Room Manager Ang Kye Seng, along with Graziadei, to reflect the mystery surrounding the origins of punch and to act as a compass for guests to discern between fact and fiction, sharing the captivating tales of Singapore and its neighbouring straits. This expert curation and elevation of the 12 punches, along with these stories, will set a new standard of creativity and engagement that goes beyond that of a traditional cocktail bar. This innovative approach not only elevates the overall experience but also fosters a deeper connection between guests and the stories of the region, making it a must-see destination for locals and tourists alike.
Volume 1 features a distinction between “History” and “Myth” inspired cocktails and invites guests to indulge in favourites such as the signature Tempest Punch and Straits Punch, each offering a unique blend of regional flavours. Embark on a mythical adventure with Tempest Punch, with a refined mix of gin and rum, enhanced by cucumber, lime, coriander seed, and jasmine silver needle tea, inspired by the legendary Prince Sang Nila Utama. Straits Punch combines Botanist gin, Suntory Kakubin whisky, ruby port, pomegranate, spiced lemon, and earl grey, now enhanced by cinnamon. This punch honours Singapore’s first Resident Commander, William Farquhar, with a rich and complex flavour profile. Kusu Island Punch offers a fresh, bright choice with Roku Gin, sparkling sake, pandan, yuzu, and sencha tea. For a bold and complex experience, try Daeng’s Punch, a robust mix of Bacardi Ocho rum, Nikka Coffey grain whisky, Muyu vetiver, betel leaf, starfruit, and assam tea, celebrating Temmengong Daeng Ibrahim, ruler of neighbouring Johor and honoured as a successful pirate hunter and former pirate.
BOLD, BEAUTIFUL, BLUE
The stories behind the new menu have been vividly brought to life by local illustrator Kristal Melson. Known for her work as the curator for the Facebook Artist in Residence programme and as the former art director for Kult, Kristal’s bold, bright visual illustrations cleverly blend fact and fiction.
“I was born and raised in Singapore, and I’m thrilled to illustrate Volume 1 for Punch Room and bring these captivating pieces of our history to life,” says Kristal Melson. Through every sip and turn of the page, Kristal’s unconventional images are a vibrant splash of colour. Upon closer inspection, guests will discover intricate illustrations reflecting these uniquely Singaporean stories, much like the punches, such as the legendary Kusu Island turtle swimming through the oceans as a fierce pillaging pirate, or the mythical Merlion leaping from the lightning-streaked skies into an urban jungle.
