ROMAZZINO, A BELMOND HOTEL, COSTA SMERALDA REOPENS, MARKING A NEW ERA FOR SARDINIA’S ORIGINAL BEACH HIDEAWAY

Opening on 30th May, Belmond will be managing Sardinia’s original beach hotel, Romazzino, A Belmond Hotel, Costa Smeralda. Originally designed by famed architect Michele Busiri Vici in the 1960s, the hotel will undergo a multi-phased renovation by interior design studio Palomba Serafini Associati. The property features a cascade of architectural ripples and curves that artfully frame views of the Mediterranean waters beyond. The 100 guest rooms, including suites and villas, all feature private pools, in addition to the hotel’s two shimmering blue pools along a stretch of private beach. The first reveal will showcase work by landscape & garden designer Gaia Chaillet, embracing bold patterns as inspired by the 60s retro-allure. Guests will enjoy curated adventures on land and sea, as well as new wellness and artisanal experiences. Finally, a new array of restaurants and bars will be unveiled, celebrating the best of Sardinian produce complemented by scenic landscapes.

MITICO ART SERIES BY BELMOND AND GALLERIA CONTINUA PRESENTS A NEW SEASON WITH DANIEL BUREN

International art gallery Galleria Continua and Belmond team up for the third year running to host MITICO – presenting large-scale art installations by globally renowned conceptual French artist, Daniel Buren. The project returns to Hotel Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel, Venice; La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel, Mallorca; Villa San Michele, A Belmond Hotel, Florence; and Castello di Casole, A Belmond Hotel, Tuscany, and expands globally to Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel, Cape Town and Copacabana Palace, A Belmond Hotel, Rio de Janeiro from February 2024, for the very first time. The MITICO project first launched in 2022 at four Italian hotels, followed by an expanded line-up in 2023 with works featured in Mallorca, Sicily, Florence, Tuscany, and Oxfordshire. More to come as the partnership continues into 2024.

CASTELLO DI CASOLE LAUNCHES TWO NEW PRIVATE VILLAS, FARM TO TABLE EXPERIENCES AND EXCLUSIVE ACCESS TO THE FAMED “IL PALIO DI SIENA”

Castello di Casole, A Belmond Hotel, Tuscany will launch the 2024 season with two new private villas – Villa Thesan and Villa Usil – inspired by the property’s rich Etruscan heritage and interpreted with Tuscan flair by interior designer, Alessandro Moriconi. Surrounded by 1,300 hectares of land, the hotel’s Executive Chef Daniele Sera continues to embrace the farm to table philosophy with expanded vegetable and aromatic herb gardens. Guests may join the gardener for an educational tour followed by a traditional Tuscan cooking class, ending with lunch in the Orti del Castello. For the first time this year, guests can experience Il Palio di Siena, a medieval, national horse-riding tournament taking place on 2 July and 16 August, from the private vantage point the historical tower overlooking the Piazza del Campo. After the 17 districts have competed, an exclusive dinner will be hosted on the streets, amongst the locals.

SPLENDIDO, A BELMOND HOTEL, PORTOFINO WELCOMES THE VENICE SIMPLON-ORIENT-EXPRESS FOR ITS INAUGURAL PARIS-TO-PORTOFINO JOURNEY

In June, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, A Belmond Train, Europe will commence its annual journey to the Ligurian coast for the very first time in its 42-year history. Winding through the French countryside and along the coastlines of the Mediterranean Riviera, this new itinerary will conclude at Splendido, A Belmond Hotel, Portofino, where guests will reside for two nights. Here Jean Imbert, the legendary train’s renowned French Chef, will curate a tasting menu celebrating this new route and the finest regional produce and culinary traditions. Guests will indulge in the ultimate Villeggiatura at Splendido, enjoying a night of cinema under the stars at the town’s iconic Piazzetta and experiencing the renowned hotel pool, famously overlooking the sparkling Ligurian Bay beneath. Adjoining is the brand-new Splendido Grill, where the menu offers oysters and caviar, cocktails and pasta or the most succulent seafood.

‘ARTISTS IN RESIDENCIA’ PROGRAMME AT LA RESIDENCIA, A BELMOND HOTEL, MALLORCA RETURNS FOR THE SECOND YEAR, IN COLLABORATION WITH GALLERIA CONTINUA

In collaboration with the renowned international contemporary art gallery, Galleria Continua, La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel, Mallorca opened submissions for three artists to join their second, annual ‘Artists in Residencia’ programme on 6 February 2024. Announced on 31 March, the three successful creatives will be chosen by a committee of experts, including Lorenzo Fiaschi – one of three founding Directors of Galleria Continua, and Chinese artist and previous residency winner, Pixy Lao – creating artwork to be exhibited at the intimate hotel mountainside enclave in Deià. For their two-months, artists will receive a room and studio, a monthly living grant, as well as production funding. Alongside this inaugural programme, the hotel continues its Walk and Talk tours designed by in-house curator Cecilie Sheridan to showcase their private collection of more than 800 works of art by approximately 80 local artists, as well as 33 original Miros.

Reid’s Palace, A Belmond Hotel’s William Restaurant is a coveted, Michelin-star destination for food-lovers around the world, having retained its star since 2017. Now under the new guidance of Chef José Diogo Costa, the updated menus meld extraordinary local ingredients with international techniques applied in innovative ways. Caruso, A Belmond Hotel, Amalfi Coast’s Executive Chef Armando Aristarco will continue to pay homage to the region’s ancient gastronomic traditions, La Dieta Mediterranea, through a new partnership working with the UNESCO protected National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano. Guests will learn to grow their own produce as well as discover rare vegetables, such as the Cilento white fig, alongside local farming families who, over generations, have mastered a sustainable way of life. The Mediterranean diet also encompasses an enjoyment of life beyond gastronomy. As such, Caruso guests can enjoy a dip in the infinity pool, indulge in tailor made wellness experiences such as top-to-toe exfoliation using volcanic stone and essential oils, or join a guided walk on Le Formichelle path – Ravello to Amalfi – followed by a private Aprea Boat journey.

GRAND HOTEL TIMEO AND VILLA SANT’ANDREA, BOTH BELMOND HOTELS, TAORMINA, PARTNER WITH TAORMINA FILM FESTIVAL FOR ITS 70TH ANNIVERSARY

From June to September, Grand Hotel Timeo and Villa Sant’Andrea, both Belmond hotels, in Taormina will be the official partners of Taormina Film Festival’s 70th edition, hosting their very own programme of cinematic screenings. Grand Hotel Timeo will showcase three screenings, inspired by the festival winners, in its historic gardens with panoramic views of the Sicilian coastline and Mount Etna. Villa Sant’Andrea will present Italian film classics from the 60s on the adjoining private beach alongside coordinating themed dinners at their brand-new Beach Club, promising a beautiful evening under the stars.
