Esteemed global publication Condé Nast Traveler has today revealed its Readers’ Choice Awards for 2020 with Lizard Island named among the top 20 resorts in the Australia Pacific region, reflecting the endorsement of some of the world’s most discerning travellers.

This year’s awards received more than 715,000 responses from Condé Nast Traveler readers across the globe – who were able to reminisce rather than actually travel – rating their travel experiences.

This recognition further affirms Lizard Island’s position as a world-renowned luxury resort, and following a protracted hiatus due to the global pandemic and extended border closures, the team at the property is looking forward to welcoming guests back from mid-December this year.

This is the second prestigious award the resort has claimed this year, earlier placing as the Top Australian Resort in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2020, demonstrating that Lizard Island remains high on the hit list for travellers planning their dream escape.

Greg Magi, Executive Director of Parks & Resorts for Delaware North, which operates Lizard Island, said he was humbled to receive today’s news on the back of what can only be described as a very challenging year for the Australian and global tourism industries.

“Without any doubt, 2020 has been a tough year for the region’s tourism industry and associated businesses that rely heavily upon it operating. Inclusion in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards reflects the high esteem that travelers from around the globe hold for Lizard Island. I also wish to congratulate the other award recipients in the Australia and Pacific region receiving this prestigious award as it a strong reflection of the fond memories guests made at these wonderful destinations,” Mr Magi said.

“After a long window of time without guests, the Lizard Island team is excited to be welcoming back guests to the resort in mid-December. The crew is raring to go and we cannot wait to reunite our guests with the natural beauty of Lizard Island and the stunning Great Barrier Reef via the many experiences on offer.

“While international borders remain closed for the time being, it’s very important for Lizard Island and for the entire industry to remain top-of-mind for travellers from Australia and around the world.”

The Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious awards recognising excellence in the travel industry. The full list of winners will be published in the November issue of the magazine and can be found online here.
