Europe has just become a little less distant and, for once, the airfare may not require a small diplomatic mission with the household budget.
Virgin Australia has launched a major Europe early bird sale, offering return Economy Choice fares from $1,641 between Perth and Barcelona via Doha, while Velocity Frequent Flyer members can earn up to 24,000 bonus Velocity Points on eligible return bookings.
The promotion opened on Tuesday, 6 October and runs until 11:59 pm AEST on Friday, 30 October 2026, unless seats sell out earlier. Sale fares apply on selected travel dates in 2027, with flights operated by Qatar Airways through Virgin Australia’s strategic partnership with the Doha-based carrier.
For Australians planning a European escape, the fare board offers plenty to tempt you to pull the passport out of the drawer.
Perth-Paris starts from $1,725 return, Brisbane-Barcelona from $1,758, Adelaide-Rome from $1,789 and Sydney-Barcelona from $1,797. Brisbane-London Heathrow is available from $1,930 return.
Other sale destinations include Amsterdam, Athens, Dublin and Manchester, with the promotion covering departures from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide via Doha.
Travellers can view and book the Europe fares directly through Virgin Australia’s Europe and Qatar Airways booking page.
Points put some extra polish on the passport
The sale is also carrying a sizeable loyalty sweetener.
Velocity members who activate the promotion and make an eligible booking during the promotional period can earn 3,000 bonus Points for each qualifying one-way Economy Choice, Qatar Airways Convenience or Classic flight between Australia and Doha.
Eligible Economy Flex or Qatar Airways Comfort fares attract 6,000 bonus Points each way, while qualifying Business Class fares earn 12,000 bonus Points each way.
That means an eligible return Business Class journey can deliver up to 24,000 bonus Velocity Points, in addition to the Points ordinarily earned from eligible flying.
Members must activate the promotion before booking, include their Velocity membership number and satisfy the offer conditions. Members can activate the offer through the Velocity Frequent Flyer bonus Points page.
Virgin Australia Chief Marketing Officer and Sustainability Officer Libby Minogue said Europe remained firmly on Australians’ travel wish lists.
“Europe continues to be a favourite for Aussie travellers, and for anyone dreaming about a European holiday next year, now is a great time to start planning,” said Ms Minogue.
“With return Economy fares from $1,641 return to some of Europe’s most popular destinations, including London, Paris, Rome and more, there’s plenty of value on offer whether it’s a family holiday or a long-awaited European adventure.
“And for Velocity members, the trip is even more rewarding, with the opportunity to earn up to 24,000 bonus Velocity Points on eligible return bookings,” she said.
Those quotes have been retained verbatim from Virgin Australia’s official 6 October 2026 announcement.
The important fine print
There is, naturally, fine print because airfares without fine print would be almost as surprising as an empty airport security queue.
The Europe sale applies to selected dates between 17 January and 14 March 2027, and again from 17 April to 8 June 2027, with blackout periods and individual route travel dates applying.
Seats are limited and may not be available on every flight or during peak periods. Virgin Australia also warns that return prices can vary because of local taxes, charges and currency movements.
The Velocity bonus Points offer has a broader travel period. Members must activate the offer between 6 and 30 October 2026, make the qualifying booking after activation during that promotional period, add their Velocity membership number before travelling and complete eligible travel between 17 January and 31 October 2027.
One detail worth noting: bonus Points are determined by the fare originally purchased. An Economy passenger who subsequently upgrades to Business Class does not suddenly acquire the Business Class promotional bonus.
Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways currently connect Australia through Doha into a substantial international network, with Virgin Australia describing the partnership as providing access to more than 100 destinations across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
More information on the arrangement is available through Virgin Australia’s Qatar Airways partnership page.
For Australians already eyeing Europe in 2027, the proposition is refreshingly uncomplicated: competitive early bird fares, connections through Doha and a substantial Velocity bonus for eligible bookings.
The most difficult part may be deciding whether Barcelona, Paris, Rome or London gets first claim on the suitcase.
