Seasoned hotelier Luke Gibbs has been named General Manager of The Porter House Hotel Sydney – MGallery Collection. Gibbs takes the helm of one of Sydney’s most distinctive boutique luxury addresses, a heritage-listed 1876 landmark reimagined as a stylish urban sanctuary in the heart of the CBD.
With a proven track record of elevating guest experience, strengthening team capability, and delivering sustained growth in revenue and profitability, Gibbs brings almost 20 years of experience gained across leading hospitality brands including Accor, Hyatt and Ovolo. Formerly Cluster General Manager for Accor Vacation Club, he was most recently General Manager of Hotel Morris Sydney (Handwritten Collection).
David Fraser, Vice President Operations, Pacific for Sofitel, MGallery & Emblems, said Gibbs’ appointment reflected the hotel’s ambitions for its next chapter.
“Luke has proven himself a commercially driven hotel leader with a track record of operational excellence. He joins The Porter House Hotel at an exciting time for the MGallery brand,” he said. “This is an exceptional hotel that demands a General Manager who understands boutique luxury at its finest, where authenticity, craftsmanship and highly personalised service define the guest experience.”

The Porter House embraces its rich past through heritage brickwork, arched windows and showcased relics alongside contemporary rooms and a striking exterior mural by artist Maria Fernanda Cardoso, which reaches eleven storeys into the Sydney skyline.
Beyond its rooms, the restored heritage building has become one of the city’s hottest dining and drinking precincts, housing a ground-floor urban café and the two-hatted Lee Ho Fook by Victor Liong on Level 1, showcasing reimagined Chinese cuisine in a gorgeous heritage setting.
Commenting on his appointment, Gibbs said:
“The Porter House is unlike anywhere else in Sydney; a hotel with a story to tell in every archway and exposed brick wall. I’m excited to build on the wonderful foundations laid here and work with a talented team to deliver exceptional experiences for our guests, while continuing to grow The Porter House’s reputation as one of Sydney’s most compelling heritage accommodation and dining destinations.”
Located in Sydney’s Central Business District, moments from Hyde Park and Pitt Street Mall, The Porter House offers 122 guest rooms and suites, a heated rooftop pool and fitness centre. A member of Historic Hotels Worldwide, it pays tribute to its origins as a 19th-century tobacco factory and leather merchant through its design, amenities and storytelling, offering guests a distinctly Sydney blend of heritage and contemporary luxury.
As part of Accor’s MGallery Collection, The Porter House Hotel belongs to a hand-picked portfolio of boutique properties united by a singular philosophy: that every hotel should tell a story. Each MGallery hotel provides immersive stays that reflect the unique character, heritage, and spirit of their locations.
